The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to counsel and advocate for all students to fully develop their personal, social, academic, and career abilities. A school counselor works alongside school faculty/staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the assigned school.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in Counseling
Valid Texas school counseling certificate
Minimum three years of creditable years of teaching experience
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of school counseling procedures, social/emotional learning, student academic and career development. Child behavior management and emotional regulation techniques.
Other Skills and Abilities Required:
Maintain positive and professional communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal) Maintain professional and emotional composure
Promote a positive, caring environment
Work with and respond consistently and equitably to all personnel, students, and parents/guardians Communicate and support expectations that are consistent with district counseling program objectives Interpret policies and procedures
