HR Project Manager - Transformation Program Support

The Mercer HR team is looking for a HR Project Manager to support a business transformation program in the US and Canada. The role can be flexible on location; however, New York City or Chicago office would be preferred (hybrid - 3 days a week in office).

Mercer’s Financial and Operational Fitness program in the US and Canada (USCC) is part of a broader, global and ongoing transformation effort throughout Mercer and its parent company, Marsh McLennan. You will support the business in a journey to accelerate Growth C NOI, delivering financial impact through right-shoring, process simplification, and digitization / automation leveraging AI.
As the HR Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of HR-related tasks across each of the workstreams. This role requires a strong understanding of HR practices, change management principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations C Technology, Finance, HR, Business Leaders). This position will report to Mercer’s US HR Leader.
Responsibilities
Create and manage HR project plans for each workstream.
Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
Be the primary point of contact for the Operations project leads and following up with appropriate HR partners where/when required.
Support data management (e.g. tracking of headcount changes) and partnership with finance leads on business case.
Coordinate across business stakeholders (e.g. Communications, Operations, Training, Business Leads) and HR COEs (e.g. Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Total Rewards, HR People Partners and HR Managers) to deliver on program.
Ownership of program materials and library with content like role descriptions, assessment tools, onboarding and dual run plans, and training plans.
Partner with the Operations project leads, Business Leads and Communication Lead on change management efforts, ensuring effective communication and engagement with stakeholders throughout the organization.
Provide regular updates to HR Leader on progress and outcomes.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by gathering feedback and recommending best practices.
Qualification's
5-10 years of project management experience (ideally managing large scale HR and business programs).
Highly organized and able to work independently.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Maintain and respect confidentiality.
Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making capabilities.
Equal comfort with hands-on execution and strategy development.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Disciplined, plan-based approach focused on flawless execution and always meeting deadlines.
Strong relationship-building skills. Demonstrated ability to establish rapport, collaborate with diverse personalities and influence others.
Nice to Have
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s a plus.
Project Management certificate.
Change management and change communications expertise, helping colleagues navigate transitions and maintaining engagement and morale during change.
Comfort working in a highly matrixed organization, where lines of authority and accountability can sometimes be ambiguous.
