Job Title: Controls Engineer

Location: 100% Onsite – New Albany, IN (Relocation Assistance Provided)

Type: Direct Hire

Salary: $120,000 – $130,000

Schedule: Monday through Friday Minimal overtime Very limited travel

About the Role:

As a Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing control system solutions for advanced, continuous cable manufacturing processes. This is an opportunity to work in a highly technical, innovation-driven environment where you will shape new control platforms and upgrade existing systems for maximum reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable control system architectures for automated manufacturing processes.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system functional requirements and translate them into detailed control system designs.

Specify and integrate electrical, mechanical, thermal, and pneumatic components, including motors, drives, actuators, sensors, and motion control systems.

Develop, modify, and document electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Program PLCs, HMIs/SCADA systems, motion controllers, and servo drives to meet system performance targets.

Manage end-to-end control system development for new machine builds and process upgrades, from concept through startup, debugging, and qualification.

Continuously refine and standardize controls platforms, component selection, and software architecture.

Revise and optimize existing PLC and HMI code to support evolving production needs.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency.

Tune motion and temperature control loops to achieve precise and reliable machine performance.

Champion best practices in controls engineering, project management, documentation, and compliance with industrial safety standards.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of experience designing, programming, and implementing control systems in an automated manufacturing environment.

Strong proficiency with PLC programming (IEC 61131-3 languages) and HMI development (experience with Ignition and/or Red Lion preferred).

Extensive hands-on experience with motion control systems, servo motors, stepper motors, and temperature control.

Expertise in tuning PID loops and motion systems.

Solid knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as MODBUS TCP, Modbus Serial, EtherNet/IP, and EtherCAT.

Proficient in reading and developing UL508A-compliant electrical schematics and control panel designs.

Familiar with machine safety standards (NEMA, NFPA 79, UL508A, ANSI B11.0: 2010) and risk assessment practices.

Skilled in technical documentation, project resource management, and technical reporting.

Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline required.
