Wastewater Plant Operator II

Description

Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage.

Monitors control panels and SCADA system, adjusts valves and gates manually or by remove control (SCADA) to regulate flow of sewage.

Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine proper plant operations.

Starts and stops pumps and blowers to control flow of raw sewage through bar screens, grit chambers, primary clarification, secondary treatment, secondary clarifiers, chlorine contact chambers, chemical addition such as sodium hypochlorite and sodium bisulfite, and anaerobic sludge digestion processes.

Maintains log of operations and records hour clock readings, flows, pressures, and tank levels.

Gives directions to wastewater treatment-plant attendants and sewage disposal workers in performing routine operations.

Collects sewage sample, uses dipper or bottle and conducts laboratory tests, uses testing equipment, such as colorimeter, pH meter, drying over, analytical balance, muffle furnace.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have a minimum of one (1) year of water or wastewater related experience or equivalent.

Must hold a Guam EPA wastewater treatment certification or be willing and able to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.

Must hold or be willing and able to obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment additional certifications (wastewater distribution or wastewater treatment) as required by operational necessity.

If applicant holds Level 1 wastewater treatment certification, must be able to obtain Level II within one (1) year of employment.

Must have a Class B Guam Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within sixty (60) day of employment.

Must have base computer skills.
