Description:
Works collaboratively with the Medical Director, Laboratory Leadership Team, nurses, physicians and colleagues. Responsible for the general administrative needs of the Laboratory including the integration and implementation of all hospital policies and procedures and communication with other hospital departments. Plans, directs and manages cost effective patient care through the utilization of appropriate staffing and stewarding of resources in accordance with accreditation requirements.
The Laboratory Manager must have the ability to respond to the Medical and Regional Administrative Directors of Laboratories and be cognizant of the goals and objectives of hospital administration. Accountable for the development/analysis of operational and revenue budgets. May also directly manage an operational cost center as assigned.

What the Lab Manager will need:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Laboratory related registry (e.g., ASCP) preferred
At least three years of progressively responsible medical laboratory experience of which two years have been in a supervisory level
Experience managing in a Union environment preferred
What the Lab Manager will do:
Develops, secures approval of, implements and monitors adherence to and administers departmental policies and procedures and ensures same are in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations. Coordinates all related inspections by licensure and accrediting agencies/organization.
Leads development of an facilitates implementation of long and short term departmental goals and objectives in order to enhance department services in support of strategic initiatives of their site.
Responsible for the overall budgeting process for all lab sections. This includes the operating and capital budget. Looks to enhance cost effectiveness while maintaining quality and meeting hospital goals and objectives.
Monitors productivity and resource utilization. Maintains records of departmental productivity. Recommends reallocation of resources where indicated.
Participates on and/or chairs related intra- and interdepartmental committees.
Interviews and selects subordinate personnel, evaluates performance of staff, initiates corrective or disciplinary action when indicated.
Responsible for the personnel management; includes interview hires, monitors/coaches, evaluates performance, determining appropriate staffing level and enforcing personnel policies, working closely with Medical Director and Section Supervisors.
Ensures sections meet all regulatory requirements (CAP, Joint Commission, CMS, etc.). Working closely with the Medical Director and laboratory leaders. Facilitates development and adherence to the Quality Management and Improvement program.
