Job Description
Performs transthoracic echocardiographic studies. Assists cardiologist during transesophageal echocardiographic studies. Maintains records and logs studies performed.
Job Responsibility
Performs a variety of duties related to obtaining two-dimensional cardiac images from patients through the use of high frequency sound.
Prepares patients for test by briefly explaining test to patients and placing transducer on patient's chest using gel to form airtight seal.
Runs test, adjusts apparatus controls, as required.
Monitors paper run and edits pertinent material for review by physician.
Obtains a satisfactory video recording for review by physician.
Disconnects apparatus from patient's chest; cleans gel from patient's chest.
Performs a variety of ancillary departmental duties.
Enters pertinent information into computer and log books.
May type echocardiogram (m-mode + two-dimensional) reports, makes copies, delivers and /or mails reports to referring physician or hospital charts.
May prepare written preliminary diagnostic summary for review by and discussion with physician.
Ensures that videotape library is kept orderly and up-to-date.
Performs routine maintenance on two-dimensional equipment.
May receive and transmit messages, arranges appointments.
May schedule inpatient echocardiograms. May interact with patient units to arrange patient transport.
Files, retrieves, and maintains related records, as required.
Prepares and routes appropriate forms for fee collection.
Transports echocardiogram equipment weighing over fifty (50) pounds to patient units to run tests.
Performs related duties, as required.
Job Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound OR Diagnostic Echocardiography program, required.
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), required.
Prior related experience performing ultrasound exams, required. Experience in cardiac sonography, preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology and physics, required.
Ability to communicate effectively.
The salary range for this position is $55.68-$55.68/hour
