Job Purpose
The Senior Drilling Engineer (Fluid Specialist) is responsible for supervising, designing, and optimizing drilling and completion operations, focusing on drilling fluids, casing design, and cementing. The role includes ensuring compliance with company and industry standards,
mitigating risks, and contributing to well construction performance in support of development and exploration campaigns.
Key Accountabilities
Program Development:
- Supervise, verify, review, and approve drilling programs with emphasis on drilling fluids, casing design, and cementing.
- Develop detailed well designs, engineering, procurement, and all fluid-related scopes of work.
Operational Oversight:
- Ensure proper execution of drilling and completion scopes of work and optimize well construction performance.
- Supervise drilling, completion, and well-testing programs, ensuring compliance with company policies and service contracts.
- Address unplanned well events promptly to safeguard assets, environment, and safety.
Contract and Stakeholder Management:
- Supervise preparation of contracts related to drilling fluids, cementing, and completions.
- Ensure contractor performance meets operational requirements.
Risk Mitigation:
- Conduct casing design and well designs for appraisal and exploration wells to ensure compatibility with subsurface evaluations.
- Validate and improve risk analyses, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor project impacts on planning and execution.
Performance Improvement:
- Evaluate new technologies to improve performance and reduce costs.
- Analyze well parameters and provide recommendations to minimize downtime.
Team Leadership:
- Provide training and coaching for junior drilling engineers to ensure workforce competence.
- Share lessons learned and best practices to improve operational efficiency and safety.
Professional Knowledge & Experiences
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mining Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in drilling engineering and operations.
- At least 3 years of offshore experience and 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience with well planning and high-risk environments (e.g., carbonate drilling, depleted formations, remote locations).
- Strong knowledge of drilling fluids, casing design, and cementing operations.
- Proficiency in WBM and SBM operations.
- Expertise in cement supervision, fast-paced drilling, and handling high-temperature formations.
- Broad engineering knowledge with strong integration, communication, and project management skills.
- Creativity and adaptability to technological changes.
- Excellent written and spoken English proficiency.
- Industry training in drilling technology, SSHE, and contract management.
