Daimler Truck North America is the market leader and thrives as the voice of the trucking industry. In the Detroit Powertrain Test Center, we are driving the powertrain validation for our global Daimler Truck brand including conventional diesel and alternative powertrain components. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, setting up and executing validation testing as well as resolving problems encountered during prototype assembly and testing. This position involves applying technical expertise to powertrain test definition, set-up and commissioning, instrumentation, data quality monitoring, prototype assembly and issues resolution as required to support validation objectives. This will require applying mechanical engineering principles to develop products, components, and systems. We are looking for a person who is solution orientated and has excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. In addition, has the ability to accomplish tasks with the highest standards of quality and ethics. This person also must be capable of developing strong working relationships with salaried and union employees.

Position offers a starting salary range of $90,000 – $115,500 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA
Support durability and prototype assembly related topics that drive the development, validation and launch of conventional and alternative powertrains.
Develop and implement continuous improvement engineering initiatives, processes, methods, tools, etc.
Devise and implement engineering test methodologies, test fixtures and procedures.
Analyze test results and oversee root cause analysis of failures and/or design shortcomings requiring corrective action.
Create and oversee engineering projects, timelines and assist management with defining budget requirements.
Troubleshoot and oversee the repair & maintenance of testing equipment, such as; test benches, measurement equipment, NVH equipment, high voltage test systems and various heat exchangers and instrumentation.
Troubleshoot and conduct routine inspections of test articles. Document findings in the according system.
Exercises technical direction over assigned technicians & follows union contractual agreements.
Researches, evaluates, and recommends investments in technology, equipment, systems, or other assets that will enhance the test center’s performance.
Reduce downtime by utilizing problem solving skills, and tracking common component failures.
Develop, implement, and maintain standard work Instructions & processes to optimize efficiencies within the workgroup.
Collaborate and coordinate with product teams and lab support teams to evaluate problems, support business efficiency and achieve monthly KPI targets.
Ensure safety procedures and 5S principles are adhered to in accordance with company policy.

Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related fields (ABET Accredited University)
3-7 years of relevant experience required.
Technical product knowledge in axles, electric axles, diesel engines, and transmissions.
Testing technical knowledge of validation testing, test cell setup, data acquisition systems, air handling systems, measurement equipment, NVH equipment, high voltage test systems, dynamometer motors & drives, couplings, heat exchangers, control valves, and PLC systems.
Proficient creating and presenting technical reports and written procedures in a large cross functional group.
Experience in analyzing test results and identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems.
Ability to manage multiple projects and inform management of any barriers.
Ability to work in a truly global environment with different cultures to collaborate successfully, including union & salary employees.
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Strong PC skills including MS Office and database tools.
Broad knowledge of internal combustion and electric mobility powertrain electronics and systems from a product and testing perspective.
Strong mechanical aptitude to be able to work across various engineering disciplines.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related fields (ABET Accredited University).
7+ years of directly applicable experience.
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude to be able to work across various engineering disciplines.
Knowledge of automotive industry test technologies and capabilities.
