What You'll Do

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio Traffic Safety Office

Report in location: 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223

Work Days and hours would vary between: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm depending on student's schedule.

This is an ongoing internship located in Columbus, OH. The selected candidate will ideally be able to work throughout the school year and summer, for an average of 20 hours per week or less (with flexibility during the school semesters given class schedule and course load).

The pay rate for a college intern is based upon the students' academic status:

Undergraduate student rate of pay - $16.93 per hour

Graduate student rate of pay - $20.59 per hour

Social Science Research Job duties:

Review and collate information to ensure compliance with Ohio's regulations for the Driver Training Program and Ignition Interlock Program.

Prepare materials for continuing education and training courses, including basic office tasks such as copying, hole punching, and stapling materials.

Create documents and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.

Assist with the administration of the Ignition Interlock Program including tracking inspections, assisting with form review, and reviewing documents for grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Participate in and attend Department sponsored events such as the Ohio State Fair and various conferences.

Support other community outreach efforts, as needed

Answer customer phone calls and emails for OTSO, including Motorcycle Ohio and Driver Training.

Prepare weekly and monthly reports for the administrators of the Motorcycle Ohio and Ignition Interlock Programs.

Conduct basic research and summarize findings for program administrators in OTSO.

Assist with the Buckle Up with Brutus and state grant programs.

To be eligible for an internship opportunity at the Ohio Department of Public Safety, an applicant must:

Be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university.

Be in good standing with the college/university.

Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Be enrolled in at least one course.

Be pursuing a degree or finishing a degree.
