Speech/Language Pathologist

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Mississippi Educator License

2. Master's Degree or Bachelor's with MSHA competencies met

3. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

Person designated by the superintendent

JOB GOAL:

To help reduce or eliminate speech/language problems that interfere with the individual student's ability to drive full benefit from the district educational program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide speech/language screening for kindergarten students and assist with Pre-K and Head Start as needed.

2. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech/language problems.

3. Provide screening and/or full speech/language evaluation and diagnosis for students who are referred with articulation, fluency, voice, and/or language difficulties.

4. Provides appropriate individualized educational programs of therapy to meet students' needs for speech/language handicaps.

5. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for students' daily activities.

6. Assists in proper referrals of individuals with speech/language/hearing difficulties to agencies and specialists as appropriate.

7. Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year. Salary to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
