Summary/Objective

The First Aid Technician provides consistent first aid services for the BJCC complex to guests, clients, and employees during events. Responsibilities will include responding to emergency and non-emergency requests for medical assistance and deliver high-quality care, treatment and customer service to guests. Completes incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Performs first aid response to customers of the BJCC

Facilities transition from First Responder to Birmingham Fire & Rescue personnel.

Assists other emergency services as required/requested.

Maintains work areas/properties in a safe, clean and professional manner.

Maintains through knowledge of and operates within BREMSS operating policies and procedures.

Follows direction/instruction provided by Executive Director and delegated to the Public Safety Manager.

Completes required annual training as prescribed by BREMSS.

Performs necessary skills and evolutions required at emergency scenes.

Cooperates with the Risk Management Team in the following areas:

Provides appropriate information for incident reports

Attends first aid training provide by the facility

Provides customers with professional, courtesy first aid services.

Performs other duties as required. Work Environment

This position may have a moderate to extensive stress level associated with dealing with crowds of public visitors. The environment is at times required outdoors and exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.). Exposure to anesthetic gases, blood and body fluids, sharps and other health care occupational hazards as routine. Conditions will include exposure to high-grade cleaning solutions, flammable solutions and gases, e.g., alcohol and oxygen, as well as latex and other industrial chemicals.

Physical Demands

Position requires bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling for extended periods of time. Extensive walking and or standing. Must have good physical stamina and endurance, measured by the ability to undertake, without adverse effects lifting, carrying, and balancing loads in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Must have the ability to see different colors spectrums. Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 in at least one eye. Must have good eye-hand coordination and sufficient manual dexterity to manipulate equipment, instrumentation and medications. Must be able to differential between normal and abnormal findings in human physical conditions by using visual, auditory, olfactory and tactile observations.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position; hours of work must be flexible and varied to meet the demands of the events of the facility. Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours including day, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum of one (1) year experience providing basic emergency medical services.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Trade or technical school training in related discipline preferred.

Must have current basic EMT license or higher Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must be able to use equipment and tools associated with the profession.

Ability to read, write and speak in English.

Ability to write grammatically correct, accurate and legible incident reports.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Works effectively with others and provide an exceptional guest, client and employee experience.

Ability to be supervised and effectively communicate with teammates, clients, vendors and guests.

Ability to work unsupervised after being instructed on tasks.
