Data Center Engineer
Position Overview: The Data Center Engineer will be responsible for performing hands-on engineering tasks such as racking, stacking, and cabling work. This role will focus 80% on engineering tasks and 20% on leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data center operations and engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
• Data Center Operations: Perform daily data center operations, including racking, stacking, and cabling equipment, ensuring all activities are compliant with standards and effectively managed to prevent outages or disruptions.
• Engineering Tasks: Focus on hands-on engineering tasks, including powering equipment and ensuring appropriate monitoring.
• Process Optimization: Review and optimize operational processes and procedures, particularly during upgrades, outages, and other critical events.
• Change Management: Implement and enforce change management processes to ensure that any modifications, such as moving or changing a switch, are scheduled, coordinated, and approved to avoid business impacts.
• Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of all data center operations, including maintenance verifications, technical drawings, and procedural documents.
• Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Engage and supervise vendors and subcontractors supporting the data center, ensuring compliance with security protocols and operational standards.
• Resource Management: Track and report on data center resource consumption (power, cooling, rack space), ensuring optimal utilization and identifying areas for improvement.
• Emergency Response: Provide 24/7 support for emergency incidents affecting mission-critical services, quickly distinguishing between isolated server problems, network outages, and power/cooling issues.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in data center operations and engineering.
• Strong hands-on engineering skills, including racking, stacking, and powering equipment.
• Extensive experience in optimizing data center operations for efficiency and reliability.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and enforce change management processes.
• Expertise in liaising with Facilities and IT teams to coordinate data center activities.
• Strong documentation skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage vendor relationships and ensure compliance with SLAs and security protocols.
