The Role: Director of Labour Relations

Reporting to the AVP of Labour Relations, you will serve as a strategic partner across the organization, guiding leaders in fostering productive, respectful relationships with union partners.

You’ll work across a multi-site, unionized environment to align labour strategies with the mission of enhancing resident experiences and supporting high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Advise operational and HR leaders on all labour relations matters

Interpret collective agreements and guide dispute resolution processes

Support or lead collective bargaining strategies and execution

Conduct and lead grievance investigations, mediations, and arbitrations

Monitor and ensure compliance with Ontario labour legislation

Coach and train leaders to navigate labour relations effectively

Foster respectful, collaborative union-management relations aligned with Schlegel’s values

What You Bring:

5+ years of progressive experience in labour relations, ideally in healthcare or LTC

Strong knowledge of Ontario labour law (OLRA, ESA, etc.)

Experience managing multiple unionized sites and agreements especially SEIU, CLAK, UNIFOR, UFCW and ONA

Bachelor’s in HR, Labour Relations, or related field (CHRP/CHRL an asset)

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

A passion for advancing people-first labour strategies that support quality care
