Job Description:
The Fire Suppression Systems Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive monitoring, inspection, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of fire suppression systems across campus buildings. This hands-on role requires mechanical and electrical aptitude, along with excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities:
System Verification: Ensure fire suppression systems are functioning correctly by testing equipment, connections, and signals, identifying and rectifying issues.
System Components: Work with various fire suppression system components including fire pumps, fire pump panels, air compressors, gauges, locked/supervised control valves, valve supervisory switches, tamper switches, alarm valves, sprinklers, pipes and fittings, hangers/seismic bracing, standpipes, hose racks, hose connections/valves, valve components, trim inspections, interior dry, deluge, preaction, pressure reducing valves, hydrants, and main line strainers.
Blueprints and Drawings: Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to install and troubleshoot fire suppression system devices.
Record Maintenance: Document service and repair activities to maintain accurate records.
Safety Inspections: Inspect and evaluate campus life safety systems and related equipment.
Support and Communication: Provide hands-on support during fire systems inspection and testing, and offer operational and technical support to maintenance shops. Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and other staff in a professional and positive manner. Train co-workers as needed.
Database Management: Maintain databases and records as required.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. Operate departmental vehicles and may work overtime. Subject to 24-hour call. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Required Experience:
4 years of relevant experience required.
Four years of experience in troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and testing fire suppression systems and equipment.
Valid driver's license.
Computer literacy.
Desired Qualifications:
4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.
Advanced degree in a relevant field.
Two years of college (mechanical engineering) or technical school resulting in an associate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related engineering experience.
Three years of experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and testing fire suppression systems equipment.
Manufacturer training certificates in fire suppression systems such as; fire pumps, automatic sprinkler and standpipe systems, fire service mains, and fire alarm and detection equipment. Fire Systems Certifications from the State of Ohio (Fire Pumps, Automatic Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems, and Fire Service Mains).
Hours and Pay Range:
Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, subject to changes in shift, hours, days, and/or location as operations dictate.
$69,400 - $91,250 annually.
