POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Chair for the DepartmentalBiological Sciences in the School of Science & Engineering, the Financial Coordinator is responsible formanaging and controlling, accounting, budgeting, auditing and other financialor related functions to ensure the fiscal integrity of the Department.

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

Managesthe overall budget for Biological Sciences and supervises all accountfunctions, including overhead budgets, to ensure fiscal year is closed outproperly.

Preparesdetailed budget reports; and processes budget transfers and journal entries.

Providesbudget assistance to the faculty, staff, graduate students, postdocs,technicians, and student clubs/organizations in Biological Sciences.

Operateswith a certain amount of autonomy and frequently has sole responsibility foritemized tasks; position requires taking initiative and proactivity.

Anticipatesfinancial needs and oversees annual budget development; designs budget systemsand records that are compatible with the University's account and reportingsystems.

AdvisesDepartment Chair regarding financial decisions by providing accurateinformation regarding the financial status of individual accounts andinterpreting University financial reports.

ProcessesScheduled Payroll Authorizations.

Preparesdetailed budget reports on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis; auditscurrent procedures to monitor and improve efficiency of operations.

Managestravel and accommodation for department seminar speakers and faculty jobcandidates.

Servesas liaison with the SoSE, Director of Business Administration; attendsUniversity business manager meetings as Department representative.

Preparescontract requests for faculty summer salaries, summer undergraduate researchstudents and part-time faculty appointments.

Managessummer semester budget, from initial preparation, to request submission, andsubsequent tracking of expenses.

Responsiblefor tracking and reporting the procurement card expenses.

Oversees/checkscompleteness of reports of business expense, authorized pay, schedule payrollauthorization, non-schedule payroll authorization.

Performsresponsible public relations duties through contacts and associations withvisitors, University officials, and the general public; acts in a liaisoncapacity.

Collatesannual faculty reports and data for annual Departmental report.

Managesregistrar issues relating to course and University catalog descriptions;initiates production of course schedules.

Requiredto be in the office during certain times of the year to handle budgetdeadlines, school or University events, and other duties and orresponsibilities that may be assigned. Scheduling flexibility is a must.

Performsrelated duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or 3 years of relatedexperience.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
