About the Position
The Custodial and Event Services Lead at Mt. Cuba Center is a hands-on position responsible for facility cleanliness and event setup support. This role combines custodial duties with event preparation, focusing on moving furniture, setting up rooms, and ensuring spaces are clean and properly configured for various functions, classes, and internal events. The position serves as the point person for event setup coordination, handling the physical preparation of classrooms, meeting spaces, and event areas. Working under the Facilities and Custodial Services department, this role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to coordinate setup requirements while maintaining cleanliness standards throughout the campus.
Essential Functions of the Role
The following outlines the responsibilities of the role, though not exhaustive. Percentages indicate the approximate time and capacity to be devoted to each area:
Custodial Operations [60%]
Maintain facilities in clean and orderly condition: clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, vacuum, or mop floors; empty/clean recycling and trash containers; sanitize and maintain restrooms
Work with the Operational Services team to maintain a high standard of cleanliness for all facilities
Perform minor maintenance activities such as filter/vent cleaning and changing light bulbs
Lead, guide, and train employees, interns, and volunteers performing custodial or event set up work
Develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols to ensure consistent quality across all facilities
Inspect work areas to ensure cleaning standards are met Event Support [35%]
Represent Facilities and Custodial Services department in weekly event overview meetings, coordinating logistics and setup requirements
Coordinate event preparation and schedule external vendors when necessary
Set up and break down rooms, classrooms, and exterior spaces, including tents, tables, chairs, and AV equipment
Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth execution of events and programs set up and break down
Respond promptly to any cleanliness or setup issues during events
Maintain event setup standards and ensure consistency across all venues Administrative Support [5%]
Work closely with and back up the Manager, Facilities & Custodial Services
Utilize task management software, service ticketing systems, and Microsoft applications to manage workflow and communications
Research, order, and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment
Assist with the delivery of mail and packages onsite
Maintain appropriate records and documentation
Generate reports on event setups and custodial activities Education and Experience
The ideal candidate for the Custodial and Event Services Lead role will have:
High school diploma or GED
1-3 years of relevant work experience in custodial services, event setup or facilities management
Experience working with both internal and external customers in a public-facing environment
Previous supervisory experience preferred Qualifications and Skills
We're seeking a hands-on, customer-oriented professional with a blend of technical skills, technology proficiency, and leadership abilities. The successful candidate will possess:
Exceptional customer service orientation for both internal and external customers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word)
Experience with task management software and service ticketing systems (Smartsheets experience a plus)
Self-motivation, organization, and attention to detail
Ability to manage time and function effectively without close supervision
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
Understanding of safety protocols and proper handling of cleaning chemicals
Experience coordinating staff and resources for event setups
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform required custodial duties About the Role: Compensation, Benefits, and Perks
Compensation commensurate with experience, starting range: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week with a standard schedule of 7:30- 3:30 with the ability to flex the schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
