AESC is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to support energy efficiency and demand-side management programs in our Pasadena, California office. This position will focus on identifying strategies to reduce energy consumption and promote clean technologies for commercial and industrial buildings and processes. Additional responsibilities include conducting whole-building facility audits, performing energy analyses, and supporting the development and management of multiple energy efficiency projects and clients.

This role requires strong technical expertise, particularly in building systems and demand-side energy strategies. The successful candidate will also demonstrate flexibility, a diverse technical skill set, strong communication abilities, and excellent client engagement skills.

Location: Pasadena, CA - Hybrid

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Salary Range*: $100,000 - $140,000

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage project teams from initiation through completion.

Provide technical expertise to support program outreach and customer engagement.

Research codes, standards, and emerging technologies.

Conduct energy audits at commercial, industrial, and municipal facilities to identify and implement energy-saving opportunities.

Perform site inspections to collect data and conduct functional equipment/system testing.

Develop project-specific Measurement & Verification (M&V) plans to substantiate energy savings.

Install and remove metering and data collection equipment.

Use analytical tools and M&V methodologies to evaluate performance and recommend system improvements.

Perform complex energy and financial analyses using appropriate software and tools.

Research and evaluate innovative approaches to energy efficiency, demand response, resiliency, and renewable energy.

Develop clear, comprehensive technical reports that summarize project scope, methodology, assumptions, results, and recommendations.

Communicate project timelines and updates with senior management.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:

7+ years of experience in energy engineering or design engineering (HVAC or industrial processes).

Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Practical experience and strong working knowledge of systems in commercial and industrial facilities.

Experience in energy-related fields such as energy efficiency, distributed generation, CHP, renewable energy, or HVAC design.

Proficiency with energy analysis tools and software, including building modeling programs (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, TRACE 700).

Proven track record of conducting in-depth energy audits.

Familiarity with IPMVP and M&V methodologies.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional client-facing demeanor.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and energy analysis software/tools.

Must have reliable transportation; travel to customer sites is required.
