Job Description:

The State of Louisiana / OH Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to manage and optimize critical Oracle and PostgreSQL environments, including AWS RDS PostgreSQL and Oracle RAC. The role demands strong experience in enterprise database administration, performance tuning, cloud environments, and scripting.

Specialty Areas:

• Database Platform Management – Administering and optimizing Oracle (including RAC), PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS environments.

• Cloud Infrastructure – Experience with AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and infrastructure-as-code using CloudFormation.

• Performance & Availability – Implementing high availability (HA), backup and disaster recovery strategies, and proactive monitoring.

• Scripting & Automation – Developing and maintaining scripts using Shell, Python, SQL, and PL/SQL.

• Collaboration & Communication – Working effectively within cross-functional teams and communicating with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, including RAC clusters and RDS instances.

• Configure RDS resources and cloud infrastructure using CloudFormation templates.

• Monitor system health and performance using AWS monitoring tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail).

• Implement database backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies.

• Perform performance tuning, issue diagnosis, and optimization using logs and metrics.

• Develop automation scripts for backup, restore, and monitoring tasks.

• Ensure compliance with database standards, integrity, and security policies.

• Support development lifecycle and release management processes.

• Apply logical data modeling and data warehousing best practices.

• Communicate project and database health updates to technical teams and leadership.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Minimum 8 years of experience in enterprise-level database administration.

• Proven experience with Oracle RAC and AWS RDS PostgreSQL.

• Strong knowledge of performance tuning, backup/recovery, and cloud monitoring tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (advanced study preferred).

• Certifications in Oracle or PostgreSQL Administration.

• Experience with government or public sector environments.

• Strong scripting abilities in Shell, SQL, PL/SQL, and Python.
