Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Steel Fitter to join our team in a busy steel fabrication shop. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the accurate fitting and assembly of steel components based on blueprints and specifications. Candidates should be able work independently to assembly railings, stair stringers, platforms, columns and beams. The Steel Fitter will work closely with welders, fabricators, and other team members to ensure that all projects are completed on time, within specifications, and with a high level of quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the precise measurements and layout for steel components.

Fitting and Assembly: Precisely fit and assemble steel structures and components, ensuring that all parts are aligned correctly and meet the required tolerances.

Tack Welding: Perform tack welding to hold parts in place during the fitting process, preparing assemblies for final welding by welders.

Measurement and Cutting: Use measuring tools such as tapes, squares, and levels to cut and prepare steel components according to design specifications.

Quality Control: Inspect completed work for accuracy and quality, ensuring that all assemblies are free from defects and meet company and client standards.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Collaboration: Work closely with welders, fabricators, and other shop personnel to complete projects efficiently and accurately.

Equipment Maintenance: Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, reporting any issues to the supervisor for repair or replacement.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a steel fitter or in a similar role within a steel fabrication shop is preferred.

Technical Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Skilled in using various hand and power tools, including grinders, saws, and measuring instruments.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in various positions, including bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with precision and accuracy.

Communication: Good verbal communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team.

Safety Awareness: Knowledge of and commitment to workplace safety practices and protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in welding.

Experience with MIG, and stick welding.

Familiarity with fabrication equipment.

Work Environment:

The position involves working in a steel fabrication shop, which may include exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures.

Must be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment.
