Job Summary
The Packer Machine Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring automated packing equipment to bag BBQ wood pellets into 20 and 40-pound units, ensure proper palletization using robotic systems, and transport finished goods to designated storage using forklifts. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make real-time decisions to keep the packing line operating efficiently. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Packaging Operations
- Operate automated bagging machines to package BBQ wood pellets into pre-specified bag sizes (20 and 40 lbs).
- Monitor equipment during operation to ensure consistent bag weight, seal quality, and packaging alignment.
- Perform minor adjustments or troubleshoot equipment issues to prevent downtime or product waste.
- Verify printed product codes, labels, and batch information for accuracy and traceability.
Palletizing & Wrapping
- Set up and operate the robotic pallet stacking system, ensuring proper stacking patterns are followed.
- Monitor palletizing system for alignment, jams, or robotic errors, and take corrective action as needed.
- Use shrink-wrapping equipment to secure completed pallets prior to storage or shipment.
Material Handling & Storage
- Operate a forklift to move finished pallets to the designated storage or staging areas.
- Maintain clean and organized packaging and storage areas in compliance with 5S and safety guidelines.
- Record completed work in production logs or data systems and communicate any quality or equipment issues to supervisors.
Safety & Quality Compliance
- Follow all W.C. Bradley Co. safety protocols including PPE usage, lockout/tagout procedures, and equipment inspections.
- Perform routine checks and cleaning of packing equipment to ensure safety and operational reliability.
- Report any mechanical faults, material shortages, or quality defects immediately.
Qualification Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of experience operating automated machinery in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire).
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot robotic systems.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a hot, dusty, or noisy environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with automated packaging or robotic palletizing systems preferred.
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to respond quickly to equipment or process issues.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret machine settings, production schedules, and labels.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a production team.
Physical Requirements
. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, and reach for extended periods during the shift.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Must have the ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, repetitive motion, and hand-eye coordination.
- Must be able to operate forklifts and other industrial equipment safely.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and vibrations in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to visually inspect product quality and monitor digital displays or machine indicators.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
