Position Overview:
The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Senior Engineer!
The Senior Engineer is a high-level, public-facing leadership position within the Town of Avon that is responsible for performing complex technical, managerial, and administrative work related to public infrastructure, public and private construction, and engineering matters concerning all aspects of the Town of Avon. The Senior Engineer participates with Avon's Leadership Team to implement the Town of Avon's goals, including the delivery of capital improvement projects on a cost-effective basis, oversight of private construction, effective public communication and transparency, and implementation of climate action strategies

Essential Functions:
Provides technical review of proposed site development plans for conformance with grading, drainage, and other site design criteria as set forth in the Avon Municipal Code and other applicable codes
Provides technical review of development applications, including preliminary plan and final plat subdivision review, condominium review, retaining walls, driveway access, road access, transportation improvements, improvements to public right-of-ways, and other public infrastructure and public facilities
Provides engineering technical assistance and support to other Departments
Provides technical assistance in the review of permit applications for work within Public Rights-of-Way and monitoring of construction for conformance with Public Right-of-Way Permit conditions
Monitor and implement innovation in construction techniques, including networking with peers in the industry to employ state-of-the-art practices in project bidding, procuring, and construction
Assists in the preparation of annual Capital Improvement and Department budgets
Administers consultant contracts, including preparing requests for proposals, reviewing and interviewing respondents, negotiating the scope of work and contract terms, and overseeing contract performance
May be assigned duties to coordinate, cooperate, and collaborate with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on transportation projects and regional groups
Provides access to and assists with public record requests related to the Engineering Division

Diverse knowledge of municipal engineering with experience in the design and construction of streets, drainage, site development, subdivision projects, and building maintenance administration
Extensive knowledge of Request for Proposals (RFP) requirements and processes for professional services contracts and agreements
Knowledge of adopted building codes and mechanical and lighting building systems
Knowledge of project management
Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel management and supervision and budget preparation
Ability to evaluate construction activities and processes for conformance with contract documents
Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications, draw plans, and write specifications and cost estimates for building repairs and minor building construction work
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, management, staff, and the public
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both oral and written form
Ability to represent the Town of Avon in the highest professional manner at all times and ability to interact with co-workers in a positive and respectful manner that reflects Avon's culture of teamwork
Ability to operate a Town vehicle safely and legally
Requires possession of a Colorado driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire Special Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree from an accredited engineering school registered as a Professional Engineer in Colorado is required. Work experience shall include at least ten (10) years of general civil engineering experience with at least five (5) years of engineering work with streets, roads, drainage, site development, subdivisions, and construction observation/contract administration.
