Curriculum & Instruction CoordinatorPosition Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Agana (AOA) is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of the AOA Learning Standards. The coordinator cooperates with the Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the AOA to ensure alignment with the mission, values, and teachings of the Catholic Church, as well as the AOA Learning Standards. The coordinator makes recommendations, coordinates, and monitors realignment efforts. This role involves collaboration with school administrators, teachers, and staff to support research based and best practices in instruction, organization of professional development opportunities, coordination of learning resource procurement, and analysis of student learning outcomes to promote growth of the whole student within the elementary and secondary Catholic schools of the AOA.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential responsibilities of the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator can be divided into five general categories. These responsibilities include:

A) Learning Standards Development & Implementation Responsibilities

1)Oversee and organize the regular review and evaluation of the AOA Learning Standard to ensure the standards:

are clear, specific, and measurable goals that are relevant and aligned to our student populations holistic needs.

meet or exceeds AOA adopted national Catholic educational standards.

are aligned with Guam Department of Education standards (where appropriate); and

integrates Catholic teachings and values.

2)Guide and support our Catholic schools and teachers in the implementation of the AOA Learning Standard, ensuring that each school has a detailed plan or framework that teachers use to meet each relevant AOA Learning Standard.

3)Coordinate schools in selecting textbooks, instructional materials, equipment, and resources that enhance faith-based learning and academic excellence.

4)Demonstrates leadership in the preparation of applications for, and utilization of, various grants that will enrich the curriculum and instruction.

B) Teacher Training and Professional Development Responsibilities

1)Coordinate, plan, and facilitate ongoing professional development workshops, seminars, and in-service training sessions for teachers and staff focused on effective instructional strategies, faith-based education, classroom management and curriculum implementation.

2)Stay informed of current educational trends, research, and best practices to share with school communities and to promote quality instruction.

3)Collaborate with other agencies and providers in coordinating and delivering professional development training.

4)Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all AOA specific work products.

5)Prepare and submit summary reports on endeavors undertaken such as professional development, training activities, and meetings specific to the development and implementation of proposed recommendations.

C) Student Learning Assessment Responsibilities

1)Collect, organize, and analyze all standardized, including the Assessment of Children Religious Education (ACRE) assessment data from all schools to monitor student progress, learning gaps and instructional effectiveness. Encourage broad assessment strategies and data collection at the school level to support and clarify summative assessments.

2)Report assessment data findings and make recommendations for intervention programs to improve learning outcomes.

3)Ensure summative assessments are valid, dependable, and comprehensively measure the holistic development of each student. Make recommendations to improve, expand or otherwise modify our assessment of students across the AOA to best measure student learning and development.

D) Collaboration and Administration Responsibilities

1)Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habit.

2)Collaborate closely with superintendent, school administrators to promote understanding and cooperation.

3)Stay informed of local and national educational grants and opportunities to improve student learning outcomes. Share these opportunities and coordinate efforts when needed.

4)Support school compliance with Archdiocesan policies and educational regulations by acknowledging excellence and properly reporting areas needing improvement.

5)Foster a collaborative environment that encourages input from all stakeholders, including parents and legal guardians, in shaping educational priorities.

E) Faith Leadership and Catholic Identity Responsibilities

1)Support and promote the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

2)Exemplify Christian discipleship in the practice of the Catholic faith and in moral decision-making.

3)Promote the spiritual formation of students by ensuring that curricula and instruction reflect the Catholic faith and the mission of the Archdiocese of Agana.

4)Collaborate with school leaders and religious educators to integrate faith formation into the broader academic programs where appropriate.

5)Follow the AOA human resources, finance, safe environment policies and procedures in the performance of duties.

6)Participate in internal and external committees as required or assigned.

7)Complete other duties as required or assigned.

To perform the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator position successfully, an individual is expected to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. These essential duties are representative, but are not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill and ability required of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications for this position include:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Masters degree in curriculum and instruction, instructional design, or other related education field; at least 5 years of experience in classroom instruction or education administration; robust knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies; experience in planning and delivering professional development for educators; familiarity with Catholic education philosophy, traditions, and faith integration in learning; proficiency in using Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications; experience with school database management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations relating to the position; ability to effectively draft reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions posed via e-mail or face-to-face meetings from groups and the public.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze information, and draw valid conclusions; possess good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a timely fashion.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a current valid Guam Drivers License and eligible to legally work in the United States; and must maintain an AOA Safe Environment Training Certificate of Completion and maintain compliance with.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a commitment to the importance and mission of Catholic schools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to thirty pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of an office with computers and printers. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.

On an occasional basis, the coordinator may be required to travel throughout the AOA. This position may also require evening and weekend availability.
