Job Description

The CSPD Interim Manager will coordinate and monitor all sterile processing and distribution functions such as decontamination, preparation/packaging, sterilization of surgical instruments, and case carts. Responsible for the supervision of all Central Sterile Supply activities, staff scheduling, shift management and the coordination of surgical instruments and supplies to the OR and ancillary departments.

The primary mission is to build a cohesive team, improve existing processes and customer satisfaction. The CSPD Interim Manager will identify improvement opportunities in organizational structure, business procedures and staff education that can provide operational, financial, and quality improvements to Sterile Processing. The Interim Manager will work with the Administration and the Sterile Processing Management team(s) to implement improvement opportunities. The CSPD Interim Manager will be a working manager and will report to the designated facility Director(s) while working cohesively with the SPD staff.

Required: experience working with a unionized facility, vendor management, inventory management, equipment and special projects support.

Job Functions

Management Guidance, Mentoring, and Process Improvement

• Implement tools to effectively perform day-to-day operations

• Manage Coach and Mentor Staff

• Evaluate current processes and implement Process Improvement Initiative

• Monitor, audit, and enhance the quality of the process and products manufactured or rendered to customers by the department.

• Identify and resolve issues in a timely manner; ensure that client satisfaction is achieved.

• Enforce the appropriate service levels to achieve staff productivity and standardized department policies and procedures are compliant.

• Utilize time effectively and manages to complete assignments within the allotted time.

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and technical expertise in sterile processing and inventory control principles.

• Visible presence in the OR; troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Human Resource Management

• Measure departmental workload statistics to determine efficient scheduling practices

• Staffing matrix

• Staff to procedural demand Instrumentation

• Identify standardization and utilization opportunities.

• Effectively manage human relations activities.

• Accurately and consistently follow documentation guidelines in all phases of the process as required by the department and regulatory agencies.

• Demonstrate the ability to maximize resources and is skilful in adjusting resources according to the workload and volume.

• Demonstrates an understanding of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

• Manage department budget and overtime.

• Manage departmental reports (weekly, monthly, and annual).

• Communicate barriers that will interfere with daily operations to appropriate parties.

• Generate and interpret statistical, productivity, and quality performance reports. Utilizes data to improve performance

• Facilitate the recruitment and selection of department staff.

• Ensures comprehensive departmental orientation for new staff.

• Coordinate training and competency validation for all departmental staff.

• Compliance with sterilization, infection control, quality and regulatory requirements

• Provide weekly project status reports to the Project Director.

• Work closely with SIPS’ Administrative Team to ensure project timelines are on target.

• Represents SIPS by attending appropriate department and facility meetings.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience:

• Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred

• Minimal 7 years of experience in an acute or ambulatory sterile processing department.

• Minimum of 5 Years of SPD leadership experience.

• Current Sterile Processing Technician certification

• Strong initiative, innovation, organization, and attention to detail are essential.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across various audiences.

• Strong customer service and client relations skills.

• Ability to work extended hours as needed.

• Proficient in Microsoft word, and Excel, ability to create power points and give presentations.
