LPN -

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the direction of a licensed medical provider, the Clinic LPN assists in the examination and treatment of patients. Performs patient interviews, prepares patients for provider's care, measures vital signs, observes and reports patient's signs and symptoms and records information on patient charts. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination and provides basic first aid; may perform basic laboratory procedures and/or collect routine laboratory specimens within the scope of practice. Assists with patient ambulation and use of assistive devices.

Requirements:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Graduate of a practical nursing program.

Experience:

Prior critical care or intensive care experience is preferred.

Prior clinic nursing experience is preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

Current Mississippi RN licensure is required.

BLS & ACLS certification is required. PALS certification is preferred.

Current Mississippi LPN licensure is required. BLS certification is required.

Working Conditions:

Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne/airborne disease; contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances; exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, chemicals and illness); subject to varying and unpredictable situations; able to handle emergency, crisis or pressured situations; subject to multiple interruptions; occasionally subject to extended or irregular hours; requires judgment/actions that impact patient outcomes.

VISUAL AND HEARING REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to see with corrective eye wear

Must be able to hear clearly with assistance

May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases. May be in contact with patients in a wide variety of circumstances. Able to handle emergency or crisis situations. Occasionally subject to irregular hours. May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary.

General Duties

Demonstrates responsible decision making in planning, providing, and delegating of patient care based on assessment/continuous reassessment. Demonstrates appropriate reporting of changes in clinical condition to appropriate provider and/or staff.

Establishes and maintains two-way communication with peers, staff, physicians and clinic management.

Communication and follow through on issues or concerns and communicates information using appropriate chain of command.

Documents patient chart accurately, legibly and timely according to facility and regulatory standards.

Participates in continuing education relating to clinic nursing procedures, in-service education, and department/facility meetings.

Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement Efforts to ensure program effectiveness.

Adapts and supports change in a positive and professional manner. Cooperates with peers and supports group decisions.

Maintains validated competency skills as required for the Patient Clinic environment.

Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills according to the appropriate population group.

Participates in the orientation, instruction, training and mentoring of new and existing staff.

Transcribes, reviews, documents and carries out all orders and patient/family education in a timely manner. Accurate & timely medication administration and documentation; knowledge of Pharmacy processes as they apply to nursing functions.

Timely reporting and documentation of unexpected or adverse events; participation as appropriate in incident reporting and/or investigation.

Anticipates and prepares for physician rounding/procedures; assists physician as requested.
