Job Description
Responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities concerning analyzing, compiling, abstracting, transcribing, coding, indexing and filing of patient records.
Establishes and oversees policies, procedures, standards and objectives for medical records services;
Monitors staff compliance and assures that records are consistent with policy for completeness, accuracy and standards of various accrediting and regulatory agencies;
Develops and prepares statistical reports and analyses based on records in order to analyze the facility's medical activities;
Provides recorded medical information to individuals with proper authorization;
Develops and implements procedures to respond to appropriate requests for information and subpoenas;
Carries out the personnel management activities associated with direct staff supervision, including screening, selection, orientation training and development, performance management, and employee relations functions;
Reviews medical documentation and assigned medical codes in order for billing to occur;
Tracks, processes, and evaluates requests for release of medical information;
Demonstrates knowledge and trains medical records staff in HIPAA standards;
Demonstrates knowledge of existing and emerging requirements related to privacy and confidentiality of health information;
Provides leadership and direction regarding improving department performance.
Requirements
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required
Bachelor's degree preferred
Previous experience in a psychiatric setting preferred
Ability to maintain information as highly confidential
