Academic administration: The Undergraduate Academic Program Specialist 2 in Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE) within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) works with other staff and faculty in AEDE on a range of academic administrative tasks. Works with the Academic Program Manager and Communication and Outreach Manager with implementation of marketing and recruiting for Agribusiness and Applied Economics (AAE) enrollment goals. Provides input to the department on curriculum development and revision efforts. Carries out student-success related administrative tasks such as ensuring timely grade submission and conversion of incomplete grades and assisting in cases of students of concern. Serves as HR Manager Liaison on behalf of the Chair.
Student engagement: Has primary responsibility for student engagement activities in the AAE major such as regular communication about academic deadlines and student opportunities and planning and running student-focused events like the sales banquet and end-of-year celebration. Assists in CFAES student orientation.
Advising: Provides academic advising for undergraduates in majors, minors, and certificates in AEDE. Advises students on University policy and procedures, program and degree requirements for majors, minors, and certificates, and related academic matters. Monitors the progress of student advisees and maintains confidentiality of student appointment notes and academic records. Refers advisees to other University offices as appropriate.
Occasional evening and weekend work and travel required. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of relevant experience. Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate complex ideas in a manner that adapts to student needs. Able to use relational skills such as active listening, interviewing/questioning techniques. Demonstrates basic multi-cultural and inclusion skills. Understands and abides by confidentiality requirements in advising and personnel issues. Work displays strong attention to detail and timeliness. Able to manage and complete a portfolio of multiple tasks through organization and prioritization.
Desired Qualifications
Able to solve problems and independently find new ways to accomplish tasks. Base knowledge and application of university's and unit's advising policies, such as drop deadlines, override requirements, petition process, faculty rules, registrar processes, etc. General knowledge of features of academic advising, such as general education, enrollment plans, identifying a student's progress toward degree.
