This position is to provide research support related to several environment and natural resources outreach and applied research projects. The first project is a long-term youth outreach program focused on community, environment, natural resources, and leadership known as Youth Beat Radio. The Research Technician 2 will assist the faculty member who developed the program with the development of a manuscript about the program’s scope, impact, and lessons learned for broader audiences. The Research Technician 2 will organize findings from past evaluation efforts and assist with any additional evaluation that is needed. The Research Technician 2 also will complete any final tasks to close-out the program and organize program records and audio files. The second project is an applied study focused on wildlife conservation. Tasks including assisting with data, analysis and preparation of a report and manuscripts. The third project will be to assist with the completion of edited book on the benefits of parks and green spaces. The research assistant will review submitted chapters and communicate with authors and co-editors. Other research-related responsibilities will be assigned as time permits, such as identification of grant opportunities and grant writing related to environment and natural resources issues.

Major duties include:

Conduct literature searches on youth radio, podcasts, youth development, and human interactions with wildlife to be used in the development of reports and manuscripts for publication

Assist with preparation of reports and manuscripts

Complete Institutional Review Board applications if needed

Organize findings of past evaluation efforts and assist with any additional evaluation that is needed

Assist with data analysis

Help complete documentation of radio program outreach, participants, key personnel, community partners, funding, program descriptions, topics covered, impacts, and other relevant information

Update program website and social media accounts

Organization of audio files of approximately 160 radio programs

Review manuscripts for edited book and communicate with authors and co-editors

Identify grant opportunities for human-environmental studies and assist with grant writing

Minimum Education Required:

B.A./B.S. in a program related to environment and natural resources, environmental social sciences, sustainability, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Minimum Education Desired:

M.S. in a program related to environment and natural resources, environmental social sciences, sustainability, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of experience working in a higher education context in a teaching, graduate teaching associate, or research capacity. Knowledge of environment and natural resource communications and outreach programs, applied research, leadership, youth development, and human-nature interactions. Demonstrated experience with academic literature searches, professional writing for publication, and Institutional Review Board processes. Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills and organizational skills. Strong interest in leadership, community outreach, and environmental issues. Experience working independently and with others.

Desired Qualifications:

2 years of relevant experience. A Ph.D. degree in environment and natural resources with a focus on environmental social sciences and sustainability. Experience with academic publishing.
