CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
Under the direct general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, this professional is responsible for the cleaning of all City of Elgin buildings.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 80 pounds of force occasionally, up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; visual acuity is required for reading, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, and operation of motor vehicles or equipment. Work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Primary responsibilities include emptying office trash & recycling cans, cleaning and restocking the washrooms, dust and wet mop floors, vacuum carpets, clean walls and windows, other general housekeeping assignments.

Ability to clean offices, bathrooms and other areas in all City of Elgin's buildings
Efficient, organized and detailed in cleaning duties
Ability to follow instructions
Willingness and ability to attend and complete job-related training
Be a responsible steward of City supplies, tools, and equipment
Able to work independently or as part of a team
Able to get along well with others
Regular in person attendance which is an essential function of the position
Valid Illinois driver's license is required
Capable of receiving and understanding written and verbal instructions in English
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Applicants must pass a background investigation, criminal history record check and drug test.
HOURS:
Approximately 30 hours per week.
Days and times negotiable
1)Vacation -
1 to 6 years of service - One week - (20 hours)
7 and over Two weeks - (40 hours)
2) Sick Leave, Medical Insurance or OPT OUT program - Eligible part time employees may choose between
Annual sick accrual - three (3) four-hour sick days
OR
Medical Insurance - participation in the city's comprehensive major medical insurance program for employee and dependents as provided to other city employees Eligible part time permanent employees will be required to pay fifty percent (50%) of the premium cost for such medical insurance coverage.

Health OPT Out Program
An employee who has an alternative source of health insurance coverage and wants to discontinue coverage under a City health insurance plan may do so during open enrollment (February). In return, the employee is eligible for a waiver payment ($1000 for part time permanent employees) which will be put into a tax exempt Health Reimbursement Account. Since having health insurance is vitally important, no employee will be allowed to waive/reduce existing coverage unless they can offer proof of coverage under an alternative health insurance plan.
3) Life Insurance - $20,000 term group life insurance policy.
4) Holidays - New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve.
