Position Description About the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis There are four precincts in Harris County.

The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government.

Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.

With approximately 1.17 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles.

Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American, 38 percent Latino, 21 percent Anglo, 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple races.

Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County.

The Precinct's territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium.

Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center.

The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St.

Thomas.

Precinct One manages more than 21 parks, 10 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.

What you will do at Precinct One The Program Assistant plays a key role within the Youth Education subdivision of the Programs Division, supporting the development, implementation, and management of youth enrichment programs.

This position will assist in providing both educational and recreational community services, creating opportunities for youth participants of all ages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Provide administrative support for the operation of the community center, including filing, scheduling, ordering supplies, generating reports, and performing data entry * Actively participate in and monitor community programs and events, ensuring smooth operations and tracking key information * Assist in the planning and oversight of special events, ensuring all logistics and details are organized and executed effectively * Support the overall coordination of activities, maintaining communication with program participants and other team members * Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the Youth Education programs Harris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer If you need special services or accommodations, please call or email . Requirements What you will bring to Precinct One Education: * High school diploma or G.E.D.

equivalent * Additional education or training in administration, education, or related fields is a plus Experience: * One (1) year of related work experience in youth development for school-age children (ages 5+), including roles in daycare, afterschool programs, church groups, or similar settings * Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Licensure and Certification: * Valid Drivers License (Texas upon hire) * Complete the Harris County driver safety course * CPR and First Aid Certified preferred or obtained within six months of employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to think creatively and contribute to the planning and marketing of special events * Knowledge of proper composition and writing techniques, with strong proofreading skills * Dependable, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability * Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with participants and colleagues * Ability to work independently without direct supervision and manage time efficiently * Skill in creating and implementing engaging programs that meet the needs of diverse participants NOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application.
