$60,000-$70,000Position Summary:

To supervise the daily protective service operations of the Department of Campus Safety by providing direction and guidance to staff. Recommend and implement policies, procedures and training for professional and para-professional staff members. This position serves as second in command within the Department. Weekends and special details will be assigned and required. All scheduling will be at the discretion of, and subject to approval by, the Director of Campus Safety.Description of Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with the Director of Campus Safety to develop and implement initiatives for Campus Safety based on a community policing model.

2. Coordinate and oversee onboarding of new officers, Field Training Program, performance evaluations, development and training, conducting staff meetings. Attend trainings and professional development opportunities.

3. Coordinate the scheduling of Officer shifts and special event requests for the campus community.

4. Become familiar with and utilize CS Gold (building access and monitoring program), video surveillance systems and other security and training technology.

5. Actively participate in crisis management situations.

6. Provide 24-hour administrative on-call coverage and respond to all serious incidents and activities that occur within the college. Perform campus patrols when necessary and patrol at other times to determine the effectiveness of professional officers and student officers, to include assigning additional staff as necessary.

7. Serve as a lead investigator or co-investigator, as appointed by the Director of Campus Safety, Title IX Coordinator, or Dean of Students on incidents requiring additional follow-up.

8. Review, process and manage incident reports to ensure all reports and activities are properly documented with written reports/forms, communicating with staff, and completing administrative follow-up.

9. Track and record self-initiated activity by Officers to address safety concerns and identify problem areas.

10. Draft policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable ordinances, laws and student handbook policies.

11. Develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of campus safety, and security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable ordinances, laws, and policies.

12. Prepares and reports crime statistics and ensures complete compliance with the Clery Act. Maintain and oversee the Daily Crime Log Review to classify crimes for the Clery report. Keep abreast of current legislation to remain in compliance with the Clery Act and Student Right to Know Act and other laws.

13. Coordinate monthly assignments for Officers and support professional development opportunities for Officer presentations related to their assignments for community engagement.

14. Represent the Department of Campus Safety on campus-wide committees and at community meetings/functions. Maintain positive relationships with external law enforcement agencies.

15. Serve as second in command; first in command when Director of Campus Safety is absent.

16. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by designated supervisor.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

The individual in this position must cooperate as a team member with the campus safety staff in performing duties essential to efficient campus safety operations. Because the duties of this position require extensive personal interaction with students, faculty, administration, staff and the general public, excellent interpersonal skills are essential.Education/Training:

An associate's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.Experience:

Three to five years of supervisory experience, assessment of training needs and staffing, and analyzing the effectiveness of policies/procedures within a law enforcement environment required. Experience in a campus safety environment and/or school resource officer is preferred.Licenses or Certifications:

A valid Illinois driver's license and acceptable driving record.Is This a Temporary Position?:
