Job Summary

TOPS SCADA Provide complex technical support and training for computer Energy Management (EMS) Systems or Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and other technical infrastructure used in Transmission Operations centers. Position requires a high degree of adaptability, and a focus on meeting customer needs and continuous improvement in the systems supported. Protection and Control SCADA Provides complex technical support to Protection and Control Engineering (PCE) SCADA Standards and Production activities related to AEP Transmission. Assist in areas of standards development, scoping, RTU setting creation, and implementation troubleshooting. A high ability to organize and coordinate customer needs will be required.

Job Description

This position can be filled in either New Albany, OH; Corpus Christi, TX, or Roanoke, VA.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

TOPS SCADA Provide support/guidance or assist in providing support to less qualified Analysts on problem resolution. Train lower-level Analysts in specific equipment and software support activities.

Maintain reliable operations of the DMS/EMS and SCADA systems Improve and make recommendations to improve the quality and reliability of DMS/EMS and SCADA data and related services Maintain real-time data interfaces Develop/improve/implement DMS/EMS and SCADA tools and software

Keep DMS/EMS and SCADA tools up-to-date with current technologiesBuild and maintain custom DMS/EMS and SCADA on-line displays Perform modeling, check-out and commissioning of Remote Terminal Units Build and maintain DMS/ EMS and SCADA models Define and make recommendation to implement internal DMS/EMS and SCADA standards

Define and implement Human Performance Initiative rules and Key Performance Indicators around SCADA processes Protection and Control SCADA Able to scope small / medium SCADA projects with limited supervision and able to provide detailed feedback on scoping questions to Distribution/ PCE / Telecom

Able to identify issues with processes and tools and provide possible solutions and provide input to more seasoned personnel. Able to complete complex RPA with both new and legacy aspects.

Completes RPA with limited supervision. Able to complete complex RTU configuration with both new and legacy aspects. Completes configuration with limited supervision. Beginning to expand communication technology competency to include legacy applications (Async, Sync, AEP, etc) Able to support stakeholders with common SCADA related issues.

Able to complete alarm and basic I/O 2411 settings for both greenfield and brownfield projects with limited supervision. Implements standards in appropriate measures with limited guidance from higher-level team members.

Assists higher level team members with overall SCADA compliance items.

Lead training activity as part of advancement for other team and group members under Transmission University (TU) initiative and training center progression training. **applicable to Transmission only**

OT Analyst: Additional responsibilities:

In support role:

Grade 7

Coordinate the configuration and support of data archives (e.g., PI, OSI Chronus).

Conduct comprehensive operational technology platform analysis.

Ensure the reliability and optimal performance of SCADA, DMS/EMS, and ADMS systems.

Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application-related issues with minimal guidance.

Facilitate vendor support for EMS, SCADA, and ADMS applications.

Develop repeatable scripts (PowerShell, Batch, .Net, Python) for configuration changes and patches.

Analyze logs and system monitors to proactively identify potential issues.

Conduct routine backups and periodic restoration tests to validate backup integrity.

Collaborate with team members and business process owners to schedule patches and updates.

Provide after-hours support as needed in an on-call rotation.

Grade 8

Oversee SCADA, EMS, and ADMS platform software upgrades.

Collaborate with team members to ensure system reliability.

Mentor junior staff in troubleshooting and issue resolution.

Conduct performance analysis of existing systems and recommend improvements.

Lead the implementation of patches and updates based on analysis.

Enhance documentation for processes and procedures.

Facilitate training sessions for team members on new technologies and methodologies.

Grade 9

Manage complex operational technology projects and initiatives.

Develop strategic plans for system enhancements and upgrades.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define system requirements and specifications.

Provide expert guidance on industry best practices and compliance.

Oversee the integration of new technologies into existing systems.

Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors and service providers.

Lead post-implementation reviews to evaluate project success and areas for improvement.

In Development Role:

Grade 7

Assist in software development for SCADA, EMS, and ADMS platforms.

Participate in operational technology analysis and support activities.

Collaborate with senior team members to develop scripts for automation.

Test and validate new software features and enhancements.

Document development processes and maintain records of changes.

Grade 8

Design and implement architecture for SCADA, EMS, and ADMS systems.

Lead troubleshooting efforts and mentor junior engineers.

Analyze system performance metrics and recommend improvements.

Develop new features and enhancements based on user feedback.

Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards.

Grade 9

Architect solutions for SCADA, EMS, and ADMS platforms, driving system enhancements.

Manage vendor relationships and oversee third-party application integration.

Define best practices for backup strategies and system performance optimization.

Lead cross-functional teams in the development of new applications and services.

Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on current systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related Technical field or higher from an accredited college/university or

high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.

Experience:

Four (4) years DMS/EMS/SCADA experience with Associates Degree and Six (6) years of experience with a high school diploma. Individuals with a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of DMS/EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level. In addition to the DMS/EMS/SCADA experience noted above.

Detailed knowledge is required in two of the following areas: Application development Operating System support Computer system administration Database technologies and support **Distribution - can use this job family, need to update language in actual posting to reflect DMS and Distribution and remove EMS and transmission references Education (job posting update) - Associates degree or high school diploma and two years equivalent technical, utility or military experience Experience - same as above.**

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

These are additional expectations for the job and could include specific work experience, license / certifications, preemployment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc. Demonstrate expert understanding of operational practices of applicable equipment and software in assigned areas of knowledge Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential.

Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred. 4Experience with SCADA systems required. Identify all equipment in the substation with no guidance and develops primary function of this equipment.

Participates in industry SCADA research and provides AEP improvement suggestions. Easily identify regional differences and can provide high-level guidance on SCADA applications in each region.

$85,081.00-106,352.50 USD
