Position Summary:

Journey Line Specialist

The Journey Line Specialist performs all aspects of line construction, repair, and maintenance on energized and de-energized distribution systems. This role involves climbing poles, operating heavy equipment, working from bucket trucks, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, NESC, and RUS standards. The Journey Line Specialist is expected to be available for emergency call-outs and after-hours response.

Apprentice Line Specialist (1st–4th Year)

The Apprentice Line Specialist participates in the Hoosier Energy Apprenticeship Training and Safety (HEATS) Program, progressing through structured training over four years and receiving on the job training throughout the apprenticeship. Apprentices work under the supervision of qualified Journey Line Specialist, gradually increasing responsibility based on program level and skill proficiency. Tasks may include line construction and maintenance, equipment operation, and operating heavy equipment. Apprentices are expected to demonstrate safe work practices throughout their development and successfully complete the HEATS program. The apprentice is expected to be available for emergency call-outs and after-hours response.

Groundman Truck Driver

The Groundman Truck Driver assists line crews by driving trucks, supplying tools, cleaning vehicles, preparing work sites, and performing basic construction support duties. This is an entry-level position ideal for individuals pursuing a career in electric utility line work and want to participate in the HEATS apprenticeship program. The Groundman is expected to be available for emergency call-outs and after-hours response.

Qualifications:

Journey Line Specialist

High school diploma or GED

Successful completion of a power line apprenticeship program

Experience working with overhead and underground electric distribution lines and facilities, including: line construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting

Valid Indiana Class A CDL

Strong knowledge of RUS specifications, NEC, NESC, and OSHA rules

Pass a drug screen and background check

Apprentice Line Specialist (1st–4th Year)

High school diploma or GED

Valid Indiana Class A CDL

Currently enrolled in and progressing through an approved line worker apprenticeship program and documentation showing on-the-job training hours

Physically able to climb poles, operate heavy equipment, and work outdoors in all weather

Pass a drug screen and background check

Groundman Truck Driver

High school diploma or GED

Valid Indiana Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL within a reasonable amount of time

Pass a drug screen and background check
