Berkeley County is West Virginias fastest growing county, and the Berkeley County Emergency Ambulance Authority is growing too! We are a 911 EMS agency and the sole provider of emergency medical services for the county apart from the City of Martinsburg. We operate 10 units daily across 6 stations and respond to about 16,000 calls for service every year. Job Overview
The primary duty for this role is direct patient care in the 911 EMS setting. The AEMT provides care at the Advanced Life Support level as defined by the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services in the treatment of acutely ill or injured patients. The AEMT can independently treat and transport higher acuity patients in the absence of Paramedic care. There are two schedule options for this position, a permanent shift assignment with a 24/48 rotation and a Kelly day every 7 days or a float position that is not assigned to a permanent shift, working a combination of 12- and 24-hour shifts. Both schedules are guaranteed 48 hours per week.
Responsibilities and Duties
Works assigned tour of duty at the appropriate station.
Provides Basic Life Support Services.
Responds to EMS incidents and assists in emergency activities.
Drives and operates ambulances in emergent and non-emergent situations.
Keeps records and makes reports of patient interactions.
Maintains & repairs EMS tools & appliances.
Services motorized EMS apparatus as directed.
Operates EMS equipment.
Cleans, maintains, and makes minor repairs to EMS equipment.
Participates in routinely scheduled in-service training.
Performs other related tasks as required or requested.
May become a trainer for students and new hire employees.
Education
Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Successful completion of a WV and Nationally accredited A-EMT program
Required Certifications and Licenses
National Registry Certification
Completion of WV AEMT course
Basic Life Support CPR
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or equivalent
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent
NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 (prior to start date)
Valid US Drivers license with no more than 6 points assessed to driving record
Preferred Certifications and Licenses
Hazmat Awareness within the last 12 months
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
WVOEMS MCI I and II
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
Additional Requirements
Can exhibit an advanced skill set within their certification level and actively seek out opportunities to continue their professional development.
Can begin to lead or assist in BCEAA training programs.
Are eligible for limited field officer promotions.
Skills and Abilities

Physical Requirements
Independently lift 80 pounds safely
Must have good manual dexterity with the ability to perform all tasks related to patient care.
Stand, walk, crawl, lift, bend over, stoop, climb stairs and work in environments where space may be severely limited
Work in moderate to severe weather
Spontaneously respond to the demands of emergency health care
Wear proper PPE including an N-95 face mask or respirator
