Job Description Summary: As a Distinguished Optical Instrument Engineer in the Electro-Optical Instruments Group, you will play a leadership role in the development of Electro-Optical inertial instruments for cutting-edge guidance applications. You will oversee and strategically guide a team of engineers and physicists to build next-generation gyroscopes, accelerometer and guidance-aiding sensor prototypes. Your team will be responsible for characterizing the performance, developing production roll-out and ultimately delivering production hardened sensors meeting some of the world's most stringent requirements. You will be a key leader in the development of our junior engineering staff as a mentor and technical leader in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

* Designing, analyzing, integrating components with optical devices, and demonstrating device prototypes.

* Develops, builds and tests systems and products based on optic, photonic and laser technologies.

* Interacts with device, hardware and software design teams to develop optical systems; specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models.

* Develop and implement test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation.

* Provides multi-discipline support to instrumentation production by resolving technical issues associated with components, parts, products or systems.

* Testing of new and existing designs and documentation of changes through a formal engineering change notification process.

* Provide recommendations for cost reduction efforts.

* Apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of highly technical problems and propose, develop and implement solutions for corrective action.

* Develop and maintain effective internal/external relationships.

* Independently drive solutions to complex, multidisciplinary problems with a deep understanding of a customer's strategic priorities.

* Capable of helping customers shape their needs and develop requirements for programs that solve their most challenging technical problems.

* Subject Matter Expert (SME) in offensive cybersecurity and cyber software development with broad knowledge across related technical disciplines.

* Contributes to advancing State of the Art (SOA) solutions and techniques in their field.

* Able to analyze Draper strategy and work with management to build capability in key areas to help sustain business growth.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Requires a bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field. Masters or PhD degree preferred.

Experience

15+ years experience Optical Engineering experience or related field required.
