Job Description:
R&D Materials Scientist (Contractor) to be based in Summit – NJ – USA. The Scientist will be part of a global initiative that handles current packaging materials portfolio. This person will coordinate projects to qualify raw materials from strategic suppliers and evaluate their impact in formulas and functionality for existing marketed products within our Global portfolio (Baby Care, Oral Care, Compromised Skin Care, Beauty products), ensuring business reliability and cost improvements through science. This individual will coordinate technical material projects, interacting with cross-functional teams and suppliers, and conduct materials analytical characterization strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage with suppliers to gather technical information, data, and certifications.
Ensure compliance of documents and specifications for new and alternate materials.
Coordinate characterization and safety testing of materials with internal and external labs.
Perform testing following established methods.
Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to gather input and assessments on materials.
Generate technical reports summarizing data collected from suppliers, external labs, and internal assessments.
Prepare and maintain accurate and complete technical documentation, including test methods, protocols, and reports.
Continuously maintain and update databases to reflect the most current information on materials and testing documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Packaging Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in packaging development, materials science, or a related role.
Strong understanding of packaging materials, testing methods, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
