R&D Engineer - Biomedical Instrumentation

Sarmal, an innovative biotech company based in San Diego, California, is seeking a highly skilled R&D Engineer to join our cutting-edge research team. We are developing revolutionary genomics platforms that aim to transform the fields of genetic testing and sequencing.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop optical and electronic components for our proprietary TEEM and FLASH platforms

Lead the integration of microfluidics, electro-optics, and electrode systems in biomedical devices

Optimize solution-electrode interfaces and electrode surface functionalization techniques

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance project goals

Contribute to the development of intellectual property and patent applications

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. or M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

5+ years of experience in biomedical device development, with a focus on optical and electronic systems

Strong background in optics, electronics, and instrumentation for biomedical applications

Hands-on experience with microfluidics and electro-optical systems

Proficiency in designing and optimizing solution-electrode interfaces

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with regulatory processes (FDA, CE marking) for medical devices

Knowledge of electrode surface functionalization techniques

Familiarity with genomics or molecular diagnostics technologies

Experience with lab-on-a-chip devices or point-of-care diagnostic systems

Track record of successful product development from concept to commercialization

Experience in project management and team leadership
