Executive Director, Full TimernOhio Holocaust and Genocide Education and Memorial Commissionrn rnEstablished by the State of Ohio in 2020, the Ohio Holocaust and Genocide Education and Memorial Commission is seeking an inaugural Executive Director.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for someone to help shape the direction of the Commission and further Holocaust and genocide education throughout the state.
rn rnThis position and the Commission are supported by state funding through the Ohio History Connection.
This position will be based out of Columbus at the Ohio History Connection offices and be required to travel as needed in the state of Ohio.
rn rnPosition Description:rnThe Executive Director is responsible for the organizational oversight, financial accountability, educational programming, statewide outreach, and annual reporting activities for the Commission.
This position reports directly to a 15-member appointed Board and is responsible for coordinating the Commission meetings and implementing the Commission's vision and strategy.
rn rnThe overall role of the Executive Director is to ensure the effective and responsible promotion of Holocaust and genocide education and memorialization initiatives and programs throughout the state and to report on their impact to the community, the Board, and state legislators.
The Executive Director will maintain and develop relationships and partnerships with local, state and national organizations to further the work of the Commission.
Furthermore, the Executive Director will be responsible for financial oversight and fundraising on behalf of the Commission.
rn rnThe Executive Director will work with the Commission to carry out duties, which include the following:rnrnGather and disseminate information about Holocaust and genocide resources, programs and initiatives throughout the staternTake inventory of current statewide Holocaust and genocide educational and memorial programs and initiatives and propose programming to address gaps such as audience, geography, and materials.rnSecure appropriate recognition of the accomplishments and contributions of Holocaust and genocide survivors, liberators, and Ohioans active in rescue and resettlement efforts, and make their stories accessible for educational purposes.rnPromote public awareness relating to Holocaust and genocide memorial and education through public education programs.rnPartner with public and private organizations that serve Holocaust and genocide survivors, veterans and liberators such as the Nancy and David Wolf Holocaust and Humanity Center, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, the National Museum of the United States Air Force and local, state, national, or international historical societies, museums and memorials for educational purposes.rnAdvise and educate the governor, general assembly and state departments and agencies regarding the nature, magnitude and priorities of Holocaust and genocide memorial and education and develop policies and programs to address those needsrnSeek opportunities to provide resources for schools to teach effectively about the Holocaust and genocidernSeek, review and approve grants that are administered or subcontracted by the Commission or the Holocaust and genocide education and memorial office established under 197.11 of the Revised CodernCoordinate with and provide information regarding available state services to meet the needs of Holocaust and genocide survivors, liberators, educators, students, and public safety and law enforcementrnReview and approve the annual report prepared by the office under section 197.13 of the Revised Codernrn rnThe ideal candidate will have: rnrnExperience in strategic planning, organizational budgets, community development, team management, grant writing and fundraising with an understanding of the region's local history and experiences; rnAn understanding and passion for Holocaust & genocide education; experience working in the field of Holocaust and genocide education strongly preferred.
rnStrong communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and network with state leaders, educational administrators, and professionals in the field of Holocaust educationrnDemonstrated experience managing multiple projects with minimal supervisionrnExperience with website development and public humanities projectsrnFlexibility with other responsibilities that will arise spontaneously or planned that need to be handled in a timely mannerrnAbility to travel throughout the state of Ohio, including maintaining a driver's license and having access to a vehiclernrn rnRequired qualifications:rnrnBachelor's degree in education, leadership, or history or related field; advanced degree encouragedrnPrior leadership experiencernFamiliarity with state operations, school systems, or other public organizationsrnMust reside in Ohio or be able to relocate after accepting the positionrnrn rnSalary and Compensation:rnSalary Range: $55,000 - $90,000 and benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays and more.
