Process Development Engineer
Base Salary Range of $100,000 - $120,000 (DOE)

We have an exciting opportunity for a manufacturing focused process development engineer to support the execution of our technical vision and product roadmap. This is a hands-on role where you’ll collaborate cross-functionally to relentlessly explore new processes, new materials, and new technologies that make Leupold the worlds’ choice for sporting optics.
As a member of the greater Manufacturing Development Engineering (MDE) team, you’ll support initiatives tied to new products. This specific role joins a newly formed team to accelerate the launch of multiple new product families at a new facility. At its core the MDE team is the engine for manufacturing technology and innovation and this role serves this vital capacity on this dedicated business unit. This includes the constant search for opportunities to provide step changes in manufacturing capability and efficiency. In this role you’ll have an opportunity to drive key projects in the areas of process efficiency, automation, process control, variability reduction, incoming and outgoing material characterization, and equipment definition by understanding process challenges, opportunities, and limitations.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Process Development Engineer:
Independently researches, justifies and initiates designs for new processes, tooling, gauges, manufacturing, and assembly systems
Provides design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA) feedback
Ownership of assembly lines, work cells, and facility layout
Ensures product quality and conformance to specifications
Consults on and troubleshoots complex production processes requiring straightforward technical solutions for both internal and vendor supplied components
Partners with cross-functional team members to validate state of the art technologies for manufactured components and assembly processes
Negotiates product component designs to accommodate cost effective technologies
Creates and documents standard work and procedures within the manufacturing and assembly areas
Evaluates machinery and manufacturing capital requirements, establishes financial impact and performs cost justification to ensure cost effectiveness of new equipment
Interacts with suppliers, vendors, consultants, and contract engineers to obtain services or support
Feasibility studies and prototyping
Production modeling of new and existing processes
Perform statistical design of experiments, data analysis, and correlation
Monitor, interpret and summarize complex data sets to support key decision points and actions
Electronics assembly and component manufacturing
Develop metrics and success criteria for all process engineering activities
Requirements
Skills and Experience You’ll Need as a Process Development Engineer:
Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or closely related field, plus 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Working knowledge of project management, new product introduction, demand flow, lean manufacturing, quality control and ergonomics methodologies and applications
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) product costing; labor standards, statistics, process flow analysis, and problem solving
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and project management skills
Ability to effectively use and apply Company approved software and office equipment to process and accomplish job-related tasks
Proficient in computer aided design (CAD) and simulation tools; SolidWorks preferred
Expertise in statistical design of experiments, data analysis, and correlation
Experience with equipment, tooling, and process validation
Thorough understanding of statistical process control and other quality engineering tools. Experience developing SPC systems including chart creation and control limits, response flows, review schedules, feedforward/feedback control (i.e., process control systems)
Knowledge of lean principles to minimize waste and enhance process flow
Confident problem solver with the ability to analyze and identify root causes
Clean room manufacturing experience a plus
Collaborative team player with good communication skills and the ability to effectively partner with stakeholders across functional areas
Knowledge of hunting and shooting sports is a plus!
Work Environment for a Process Development Engineer:
Work takes place in an office environment with exposure to manufacturing processes/areas. Occasional travel may be required.
