Role Summary

We are looking for a Data Center Architect to provide solutions architecture expertise to support projects across the Rowan data center project portfolio. This position is a critical part of the technical team that will help support all aspects of the Rowan approach from site origination through facility operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully providing both design and field level architectural support for complex design and construction projects in the data center, industrial design/build, or similar industrial construction industries. The successful candidate will have excellent strategic thinking skills, a customer service orientation, excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to multitask, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Travel: Ability to travel up to (25%) for company gatherings or to project sites

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid); Will consider remote candidates with strong qualifications

Compensation: $130-$165K - Offers Bonus

Essential Responsibilities

Work with Rowan’s Senior Director of Engineering in the management of all A/S/MEP engineering consultants for the design, permitting, and coordination of A/S/MEP engineering, specifically in the architectural and structural disciplines. Expertise is not needed in all disciplines, but a holistic understanding of all disciplines from a design and construction perspective is required including an understanding of central cooling plants and large scale data center master planning

Work with Chief Solutions Architect to ensure Rowan’s understanding of any A/S/MEP engineering related Customer design requirements on a project-by-project basis

Routine maintenance and modification as required of Rowan’s specific prototypical ‘Form Factor’ product line. On a quarterly basis, prototype product line to be updated to reflect amended rack densities and critical loads and shall reflect current market trends with respect to power and cooling topologies

Provide on-site field support as needed during construction, ensuring that A/S/MEP engineering work is executed according to design specifications and standards. On-site duties shall include the acceptance of Work product pertaining to architectural and structural disciplines

Collaborate with the design and construction teams to address site-specific challenges and make recommendations to optimize designs for constructability

Interface with and serve Rowan’s Commercial team and program managers with Subject Matter Expert (SME) level data and interpretation for key stakeholder decisions related to architectural and structural engineering

Support the preparation of construction documents (CDs), including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work, for A/S/MEP components of data center projects. The CDs production will be performed by 3rd party consultants

Conduct and lead bi-annual Design Consultant Roundtable, with the goal of ensuring consistency in quality of design services received across the Rowan platform, and establishment of minimum expectations. Work with Chief Solutions Architect and Rowan Senior Quality Control & Compliance Manager in maintaining Rowan’s Quality Assurance Program

Coordinate with Rowan’s Director of Sustainable Practices in the attainment of a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating for all Rowan projects

As needed, review contractor work, submittals, and RFIs to ensure that A/S/MEP engineering elements adhere to Rowan's standards of quality and project requirements

Nurture and create relationships with permitting agencies, vendors, and client technical experts. Maintain knowledge of and proficiency with latest industry trends with respect to power and cooling topologies, rack loads and chip design

Identify risks during all stages of the project lifecycle from site origination through operations

Support the growth of the engineering team and of Rowan by helping to establish engineering standards and processes

Support other technical tasks not listed as required

Support site construction teams with A/S/MEP engineering pre-construction services as an internal client

Must be comfortable working with government and jurisdictional agencies on complex permitting and entitlement approval processes

Education, Skills, and Experience

Accredited professional degree in Architecture or Structural Engineering. Other related fields may be considered. AIT/EIT required as a minimum level of professional certification. Sustainable design accreditation and/or professional licensure preferred

7+ years of experience participating in and leading commercial or industrial A/S/MEP design projects, with specific experience in data center master planning

5+ years of hands-on experience overseeing architectural design and construction activities in the field with strong knowledge of building systems best practices, safety standards, and quality control procedures

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, REVIT, NAVISWORKS, and Blue Beam Revu

Knowledge of A/MEP design and construction practices and processes required

Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines

Knowledge of QA/QC and specification processes

Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate large teams and consultants

Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing

Experience communicating with senior leaders and executives at all levels of the organization

Knowledge of data center industry and trends required

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, and highly cross-functional environment

Ability to work with little oversight. The Rowan team collaborates constantly; however, the successful candidate should be comfortable working independently

Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions

Ability to make decisions under challenging circumstances

Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment

Ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time
