Role and Responsibilities
This is an advanced-level position involving technician work with a structural materials field team. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: performing Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) to design cathodic protection systems or create cracking maps for structures; providing construction inspection and support for cathodic protection projects; assisting the construction project team, maintaining the quality of corrosion prevention systems on bridges and other structures; conducting field testing and sampling; and communicating with District and Contractor personnel and providing technical support.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience with CADD and field construction, knowledge of safety procedures, familiarity with structural materials, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, proficiency with computers and Microsoft software, and experience using both hand and power tools. This position is part of the Field Operations unit within the Corrosion and Composite Materials Team.
Specific duties include but are not limited to, the following:
Drives FDOT vehicles to projects.
Generates CADD drafted drawings for cathodic protection systems, cracking maps of structures, and other related elements.
Prepares and reviews detailed technical drawings and assists in the production of plans and specifications for bridge rehabilitation.
Reviews construction plans and specifications produced by others for accuracy and compliance with department standards.
Provides construction support and inspection for cathodic protection systems on bridges and other structures.
Logs and reviews data, and drafts inspection reports or records for cathodic protection systems on bridges and other structures.
Works with the field team to evaluate new or existing structures for corrosion assessment and performs other fieldwork as needed. Field work may be performed on bridges or from boats.

Minimum Qualification: High School diploma or equivalent. Ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office programs and Computer Aided Design & Drafting software. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to operate hand and power tools.
