Job Overview:

We are looking for a talented and experienced Data Governance Specialist to join our data team. As a key player, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable data engineering solutions using Databricks and the broader Azure ecosystem. Your expertise will be crucial in building high-performance data pipelines, optimizing existing infrastructure, and enabling seamless integration of various data sources for business intelligence and machine learning applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Governance Framework Development:

Develop and implement data governance policies, processes, and standards to ensure proper data management across the organization.

Collaborate with business and technical teams to establish data governance strategies that align with organizational goals.

Monitor data governance compliance across different data domains and business units.

Metadata Management:

Define and implement a metadata management strategy to ensure the collection, management, and accessibility of metadata across the enterprise.

Work with data stewards, business analysts, and IT teams to define and document metadata standards and practices.

Maintain metadata repositories, ensuring metadata is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with data governance policies.

Data Lineage Implementation:

Implement and maintain data lineage tools and processes to trace the flow of data across the organization, from source to destination.

Create clear and comprehensive data lineage documentation that outlines data movement, transformation, and dependencies.

Work with data engineering and data architecture teams to ensure data lineage is accurately mapped for all critical data processes.

Data Quality & Compliance:

Monitor data quality metrics and ensure adherence to established data governance policies.

Perform audits and assessments to identify potential data governance risks or compliance gaps.

Recommend improvements for data quality, metadata management, and data lineage processes.

Collaboration & Training:

Work closely with data governance, IT, business, and compliance teams to promote data governance best practices and raise awareness of metadata and data lineage importance.

Provide training and guidance to business and technical users on data governance principles, metadata management, and data lineage best practices.

Support the development of data stewardship programs and promote a culture of data ownership.

Technology & Tools:

Stay up-to-date with the latest tools and technologies in data governance, metadata management, and data lineage.

Implement and maintain data governance and lineage platforms (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Informatica, Apache Atlas, or other industry-standard tools).

Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of metadata management and data lineage processes through automation or new tools.

Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Proven experience in data governance, metadata management, and data lineage, with at least 3-5 years in a relevant role.

Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality standards, and metadata management best practices.

Familiarity with data lineage tools (e.g., Apache Atlas, Alation, Collibra, Informatica, etc.).

Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and the ability to implement data governance strategies that ensure compliance.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex data workflows.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and business teams.

Knowledge of SQL, data modeling, and database management systems (DBMS) is a plus.

Experience with data integration and ETL processes is an asset.

Preferred:

Certification in data governance (e.g., DAMA, CDMP).

Experience in cloud-based data governance tools and platforms.

Familiarity with data security standards and practices.
