Join the Oregon Symphony Team as our Senior Accountant!

Are you an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment? The Oregon Symphony is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive Senior Accountant to help ensure the financial health and operational integrity of one of Portland’s most beloved performing arts organizations. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys both big-picture financial strategy and day-to-day accounting work, and who takes pride in supporting artistic excellence through sound financial practices.

Here’s how you’ll contribute to our mission:

Financial Operations & Reporting

Support monthly and year-end close processes in partnership with our external accounting team.

Prepare audit schedules and provide documentation for the annual external audit.

Track, reconcile, and report on restricted funds and grants.

Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis for leadership and board use.

Cash & Asset Management

Monitor daily cash flow and prepare business deposits.

Oversee fixed assets and depreciation schedules.

Manage treasury tasks such as bank documentation and positive pay uploads.

System & Process Improvement

Recommend and implement improvements to financial systems, tools, and workflows.

Help document and maintain accounting policies and internal controls.

Train staff on accounting-related processes as needed.

Collaborative Support

Act as the primary liaison between Oregon Symphony staff and our external accounting vendor.

Support department heads with budget-to-actual analysis and financial insights.

Review invoices, credit card transactions, and complex billing items.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

3–5 years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience a plus).

Familiarity with general ledger, journal entries, month-end close, and audits.

Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting software.

Experience with fund accounting, grants, and fixed assets (preferred).

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.

Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.

Status & Work Environment:

This is a full-time exempt position following a hybrid work model with 2–3 days per week in the office.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000/year
