Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated HDD/SSD Engineer with a strong focus on data security, product integrity, and advanced NAND flash memory handling. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of hard disk drive (HDD) and solid-state drive (SSD) technology, including NAND flash chip harvesting techniques, data sanitization standards, and hardware testing methodologies. This role is crucial in ensuring our products meet the highest security and quality standards, particularly in sensitive data handling, component recovery, and compliance with industry regulations.

Responsibilities:

Data Security & Sanitization:

Implement and validate data sanitization procedures in accordance with NIST SP 800-88 and IEEE 2883-2022guidelines.

Develop and execute test plans to verify the effectiveness of data erasure and overwrite processes for both HDD and SSD technologies, with specific attention to NAND flash erasure.

Analyze and mitigate potential data security vulnerabilities in HDD and SSD products, including those related to NAND flash memory.

Ensure compliance with R2v3 data sanitization requirements..

Scripting & Automation:

Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automated testing, data analysis, and reporting, specifically tailored for HDD and SSD characteristics, including NAND flash analysis.

Automate data sanitization and verification processes for both storage types.

Create tools to streamline hardware testing and product grading for HDDs and SSDs, including tools for NAND flash chip evaluation.

Hardware Test Platforms:

Design, develop, and maintain hardware test platforms for HDD and SSD evaluation, with specific modules for NAND flash testing and harvesting.

Configure and utilize specialized test equipment for performance, reliability, and security testing of both storage technologies, including NAND flash testing equipment.

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues during testing for HDDs and SSDs, including those related to NAND flash memory.

Product Grading & Quality Assurance:

Establish and implement product grading criteria based on performance, reliability, and security metrics for both HDD and SSD products, including harvested NAND flash.

Analyze test data to identify and classify product defects in HDDs and SSDs, including NAND flash failures.

Generate detailed reports on product quality and grading results.

Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations for both HDD and SSD failures, including those related to NAND flash.

NAND Flash Chip Harvesting & Analysis:

Develop and implement techniques for the safe and efficient harvesting of NAND flash chips from SSDs.

Analyze harvested NAND flash chips for data integrity, functionality, and potential reuse.

Develop and execute test plans to evaluate the quality and reliability of harvested NAND flash.

Understand and implement error correction and wear leveling algorithms as they pertain to harvested flash.

Compliance & Documentation:

Maintain detailed documentation of test procedures, results, and security protocols for both HDD and SSD technologies, including NAND flash harvesting and testing.

Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to data security and product quality.

Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in HDD and SSD technology, NAND flash memory, and data security best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Proven experience in HDD and SSD testing, data security, and NAND flash memory handling.

Strong understanding of NIST SP 800-88, IEEE 2883-2022and R2v3 standards.

Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) as well as deep understanding of the Linux operating system and tools like sg3_utils

In depth knowledge around the SCSI command set

Experience with hardware test platforms and equipment, including NAND flash testing equipment.

Knowledge of HDD and SSD architecture, firmware, and data storage technologies, with deep knowledge of NAND flash operation.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and documentation skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience with product grading and quality assurance processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with data forensics and security auditing.

Knowledge of advanced data sanitization techniques, especially for SSDs and NAND flash memory.

Familiarity with industry-standard test tools and methodologies for both HDDs and SSDs, including NAND flash testing.

Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or repair environment.

Experience with JEDEC standards.
