Description
Summary of Duties: Conducts field investigations and program support for the community’s natural surfaced trails and pathways within The Woodlands Township. Provides field and office support for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Maintenance Oversight
Responsible for maintenance of community’s natural surfaced trails and pathways within The Woodlands Township.
Perform off-road vehicle and foot patrols of trails, recreational facilities, and buildings.
Perform light trail maintenance work including but not limited to removal of branches/logs for the trail, removal of overhanging branches/brush, remove/replace trail signs, light hand grading, etc.
Complete inspections, logs data, photo documentation and reports as needed.
Maintain maintenance log and create and update Trail Operation and Maintenance Plan to aid in planning of major trail maintenance projects.
Develop annual work plan for trail maintenance and construction projects with input from the Parks Superintendent.
Plan and oversee work of in-house staff, 3rd party contractor and/or staff.
Utilize GIS technology in the field and work through IT department to produce and edit maps and trail data.
Community Activation
Act as liaison to community-based trail organizations i.e., Harris County Precinct 4, Montgomery County Precinct 3, Bayou Land Conservancy, The Woodlands Development Corporation, Boy/Girl Scouts, GORHBA.
Recruit and train volunteers for trail related work. Maintain effective communications with volunteers including notification of project details and training opportunities, I.e., Adopt a Trail/Path, Trail Work Days.
Supervise volunteer work on trails and take corrective actions when needed.
Handles resident comments, questions, and concerns about the maintenance standards for trails and pathways.
Maintains accurate and detailed records of complaints and actions taken; writes reports, updates department database.
Education and Marketing
Design, administer and promote educational programs and activities to ensure and encourage stewardship and compliance with the community values.
Presents information on the trail system to the public at various events- Village Association meetings, Special Events, and Good Neighbor Days.
Write press releases, bulletins, public service announcements and magazine articles.
Enforce Township Park Rules as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of: Educational, presentation and customer service techniques for a wide variety of audiences. Broad range of environmental concerns and issues. Conservation practices, native plants, local wildlife, and ecology.
Skill in: Developing creative, innovative educational programs.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
Experience: One (1) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a Texas driver’s license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office required and familiarity with modern technology e.g., iPhones, iPads, GPS and general computer programs and platforms.
