Job Description
About the Role
We’re creating something new—and we’re looking for a hands-on, strategic Data Scientist to help us shape it. In this newly established role, you’ll connect data across multiple domains and systems, build forecasting models, and lay the foundation for AI/ML capabilities. From demand forecasting to data product strategy, you’ll play a key role in turning raw data into business-critical insights and innovation.
You’ll work alongside our internal analytics and IT teams, helping align their efforts, identify skill gaps, and move the organization toward a more predictive, intelligent data strategy. If you're a self-starter who thrives in environments where you're given the opportunity to build, test, and lead—this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
Develop forecasting models that predict demand, usage patterns, and service needs based on historical trends and external data.
Analyze data from a range of sources — internal databases, third-party APIs, geographic and behavioral datasets — to create location-based insights and usage recommendations.
Partner with external vendors currently building out the ETL infrastructure, and help identify internal data engineering skill gaps.
Build data models that tie directly to business outcomes and revenue opportunities, and clearly communicate those results.
Lead early-stage AI/ML initiatives using tools like Azure ML or Databricks, with flexibility to explore other platforms (AWS, Google, etc.).
Collaborate with internal teams to unify data analyst and analytics functions, building a connected and consistent approach to data.
Contribute to the development of potential data-driven products and services, identifying opportunities to monetize insights.
Work cross-functionally across business units to solve problems, test ideas, and drive forward new data capabilities.
Tech Environment
Azure: Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL, DB2 (legacy systems)
Hybrid cloud environment with various third-party and public data sources
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience in data science and predictive modeling, ideally tied to measurable business outcomes.
Strong analytical thinking and comfort working with large, diverse datasets — both internal and external.
Comfortable in a hands-on role that combines strategy, modeling, testing, and implementation.
Exposure to or understanding of data engineering and ETL processes (vendor-managed ETL currently in place).
Experience working in cross-functional teams, with the ability to guide others and unify efforts.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Azure, but open to others).
Desire to work in a fast-paced, build-from-scratch environment.
Local to Columbus preferred, but open to remote with travel flexibility.
Why Join Us?
Help shape and grow a new data science function from the ground up.
Be part of a collaborative, future-focused team building innovative data capabilities.
Work in an environment where experimentation and action are encouraged.
Get in early and help define a roadmap that could eventually grow into its own business unit.
