VCS Bus Driver

Position Status: Part Time Hourly On-Call

Classification: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

The VCS Bus Driver is responsible for transporting passengers, including school aged children, to and from program activities and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of all passengers while in and around the vehicle.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Drives an assigned vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules.

Picks up and discharges passengers at designated stops.

Operates a special ramp bus; loads and unloads students in wheelchairs on and off bus, inspecting wheelchair for operational safety; operates ramp; positions and secures wheelchair in bus.

Transports passengers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed

Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to district policy.

Conducts safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.

Reports needed mechanical repairs to the Transportation department when necessary.

Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.

Completes periodic mileage and other reports including passenger counts.

Attends various meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required.

Attends driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of an Oklahoma Motor Vehicle

Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED.

Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver’s License with both an S (school bus) and P (passenger) endorsements.

Clear and safe driving record.

Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques

Knowledge of safe driving practices

Ability to read, write, understand and carry out instructions and communicate at a level necessary to successfully perform the required duties.

Sound judgement

Flexible hours for availability (including evenings and weekends).

Positive customer-oriented attitude and professional image.

Constantly lift and or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds;

Frequently exposed to loud noise levels; fumes or airborne particles; noxious odors; vibrations from driving a bus; and traffic;

Considerable use of arms, legs and whole body; Sitting, climbing, bending, stoop and kneel; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; use foot controls to drive;

Sighted with capacity for both color and distance;

Full range of hearing;

Occasional climate extremes of hot or cold;

Proficient in oral and written communications.
