Ascella Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support the ongoing operations and future development of a large business application suite at a federal agency. This position plays a critical role across multiple workstreams, interfacing with IT teams, federal managers, and external contractors to ensure system stability, security, and performance. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and federal contracting experience, with a solid understanding of enterprise Java development and database management.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are essential, as the role requires frequent interaction with federal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Developing and maintaining Java applications in an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) environment, ensuring high availability and performance
Taking ownership of multiple application components, providing technical leadership and mentorship to team members
Collaborating with Oracle database developers to implement code enhancements, resolve bugs, and improve data integrity
Designing and implementing data fixes, along with proposing strategies to reduce future issues
Participating actively in Agile (Scrum) ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
Maintaining SDLC documentation and ensuring adherence to quality standards
Assisting Project Managers with work planning, scheduling, milestone tracking, and resource allocation
Supporting technical meetings, coordinating with infrastructure teams, and managing Jira tickets
Working with Database Administrators on database maintenance, backups, and performance tuning
Conducting quality assurance activities on data and dashboards on a rotational basis
Identifying and prioritizing future application enhancements based on defect reports, system upgrades, and user feedback
Providing general user and technical support as needed
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
5+ years of professional experience in Java development
Extensive experience with Java (version 1.8+), including frameworks such as Spring and Struts
Hands-on experience working with Oracle databases (Oracle 11c or higher)
Proven experience in Agile (Scrum) development environments
Knowledge of software release management processes
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products
U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident
Ability to pass a Public Trust background investigation
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
Industry certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional, ScrumMaster (CSM), or equivalent
Experience with ColdFusion MX, MicroStrategy, Power BI, or other BI tools
Familiarity with additional RDBMS platforms like Sybase
Experience managing or supporting federal agency IT systems
Knowledge of Atlassian tools like Jira and Serena Dimensions
Experience with version control systems such as GitLab or GitHub
Experience in technical writing, system testing, and web application validation
Familiarity with SDLC methodologies and full software lifecycle management

Base Compensation: We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, and we are open to discussing compensation based on your qualifications and experience
