We are looking for a highly motivated AWS Engineer in Columbus, OH or Fairfax, VA that can operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment of a micro-cap publicly-traded company.

Position Summary

The Senior AWS Engineer is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and evolving all WidePoint cloud-based services, including architecting, planning, implementing, operating, and documenting infrastructure-related systems that align with the business and IT objectives of WidePoint.

The Senior AWS Engineer is expected to understand the Amazon Web Services (AWS) core systems within AWS GovCloud and apply best practices regarding security (e.g., NIST 800-53) and scalability. Additionally, a working knowledge of SaaS (software as a service) and IaaS (infrastructure as a service) solutions, Infrastructure as Code, storage, networking, component operating systems, database, and web services is a must.

Note: This position requires excellent communication skills with cross-functional teams and effective documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

· Architect and deploy component systems within the AWS cloud.

· Building, baselining, and implementing Microsoft (MS) Windows-based servers.

· Designing highly available solutions to meet customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

· Developing effective disaster recovery strategies with periodic tests.

· Deploying cloud resident security solutions to minimize risk.

· Working with the Infrastructure, Development, and DBA teams to devise and orchestrate scalable solutions.

· Utilizing automation and declarative configuration tools to streamline deployment and operational efficiencies.

· Deploying cloud-based monitoring tools to collect useful telemetry to manage uptime, reduce latency, maximize availability, and reduce cost.

· Providing effective documentation and communication of ongoing changes, configurations, and inventory.

· Participating in change management and drafting and maintaining policy surrounding IT infrastructure.

· Maintaining awareness of current and future technology trends and making recommendations for infrastructure design and improvements.

· Maintain awareness of current and future industry threats and participate in team efforts to mitigate vulnerabilities and overall security risks.

· Participate in the on-call rotation to support 24x7 operations.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

The minimum qualifications include:

· Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field required or supporting industry certifications a plus.

· Five (5) years of related experience with at least three (3) years' experience deploying cloud-based Infrastructure solutions preferred. Experience working within a GovCloud environment is a plus.

· Strong background in MS Windows operating systems.

· Strong background managing web and database services, with a broad understanding of full-stack development.

· Strong background in managing and maintaining Infrastructure using an Infrastructure as Code tool. Experience using AWS and Terraform is required.

· Experience with NIST, NSA, CIS, DOD, and DISA specifications; experience in acquiring and maintaining a FedRAMP certification is a big plus.

· Experience with scripting tools (e.g., Bash, Python, and PowerShell).

· Experience with building and maintaining system and network baselines.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

· Excellent verbal, written communication, and documentation skills (e.g., policy and procedures).

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Must be eligible to obtain a government security clearance.
