A postdoctoral researcher appointment is available in the Carpenter Nanoparticle Spectroscopy Group ( in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Ohio State University. The postdoctoral researcher will perform independent experiments in single-molecule and single-particle optical spectroscopy, centered around the heterogeneity and chemical dynamics of biological nanocompartments and nanomedicine particles. The researcher will work independently on research projects decided on jointly by the postdoctoral fellow and the PI, and is expected to generate data and insights for scientific publication and presentation at professional meetings.

As a member of a recently established lab, duties will also consist of establishing single-particle microscopy and spectroscopy infrastructure, including sample preparation protocols and construction of optical microscopes designed for single-particle and single-molecule measurements. The individual will also assist with the general development of the lab, including assisting with funding proposals and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in sample preparation protocols, optical techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication.

Required: PhD in chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering, or other related discipline. Past graduate or postdoctoral experience with single-particle spectroscopy or imaging on biological systems, as demonstrated by scientific publications in the field. Required skills include operation and alignment of laser instrumentation, preparation of biological samples for single-molecule imaging. Programming experience in e.g. MATLAB/Python/LabVIEW for data analysis and software experimental control is required.
