The Ohio School for the Deaf is currently seeking a Literacy Specialist. This position:
Provides assessments and reviews data for literacy frequently;
Manages and provides push-in/pull-out services for, coordinates, and reports on Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans;
Provides regular updates on student progress to teachers and families;
Provides push-in and pull-out intervention and teaching as directed/scheduled by principals
Provides some IEP specially designed instruction and reports regularly on progress;
Works collaboratively with ASL Specialist in support and leadership of the Bilingual Grammar Curriculum program;
Attends department meetings, language support meetings, etc. to share updates, tips, and strategies;
Consults with staff on literacy interventions/supports;
Teaches literacy-based classes as needed;
Collaborates with teams as directed by principals to expand impact of literacy programming and recommendations (e.g., parent mentor, communications);
Provides, at minimum, a quarterly update to principals on all student progress;
Participates in professional learning as assigned.
Master's degree in education or related field;
Must maintain valid Ohio teaching licensure for grade level, subject area or special class assignment;
Must demonstrate Advanced level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in literacy or reading instruction;
Licensure endorsement for PreK-12 Reading Instruction.
